The Amazon Prime show Invincible is full of amazingly interesting and complex characters, though some characters may not be as complex as others. But ultimately, every main person in the show manages to stand out and appear memorable, and this is partly due to the things that they say. From the title character's coming of age journey to the more established heroes on the show, Invincible characters prove their greater depth through both their actions and words.
With the excellent dialogue in the series, the characters are able to showcase their own roles or arcs in the series. Each character gets a line that is emotional, funny, or both. Often, these quotes perfectly represent who the characters are deep down.
Since this is only the first season of the show, Mark is at a stage where he is constantly trying to prove himself. He mostly wants to prove himself to his father, and show that he can be just as strong as the all-powerful Omni-Man.
Being that his superhero name is "Invincible," Mark wants to appear as just that. So when he feels like his Dad is underestimating him, Mark yells at Nolan to hit him, so he can show just how much of a beating he can take. And by the end of the season, Mark has proven just that, that he can take a punch from his father and still keep fighting.
Debbie, who is arguably the best character in Invincible, is Mark's mom, and the only person without powers in the family. However, that doesn't mean that she isn't just as strong as her husband and son. She is Mark's guiding light, always teaching him about how to be responsible with his powers. Arguably, if it wasn't for her, Mark could have ended up just like Omni-Man.
This is summed up when she tells Mark that she should always help people, even if they aren't who they appear to be. This shows her kind nature, and it also hints at her ability to see what people are hiding, including her husband Omni-Man.
Omni-Man is an incredibly scary and powerful villain. However, as he remains somewhat of a twist villain, at least to the other characters, the audience gets to see him lead a normal life with his family. Viewers learn that his plan of taking over the world isn't exactly what he wants to do, but he feels a responsibility to his home planet.
He explains to Mark this sentiment of responsibility, without fully revealing what he has done. But Omni-Man's words show why he has done the awful things that he's done, while also giving him complex emotions about it. It also foreshadows how he expects Mark to do those same awful things in the future.
In the worst episode of the season according to IMDb, Amber and Mark are having more relationship drama. While a lot of fans believe that Amber was being too harsh on Mark, one can admire how she has little time for being messed about by someone.
This is epitomized when Mark tries to make a point of their arguing being dumb, to which Amber retorts by saying that the dumb thing is how long she's been putting up with Mark's lies. Her words show how Amber is quick-witted since she can turn Mark's argument on its head, and that she also has no problem standing up for herself.
Atom Eve becomes Invincible's guide into the superhero world, arguably more than his dad Omni-Man. Because of this, she explains a lot of stuff to him, including how secret identities work, during a moment when he is surprised to realize that she goes to the same school as him.
While Atom Eve arguably has one of the best superpowers in the whole show, she also feels like she often goes overlooked, be it by her family, her friends, or her super team, Teen Team. Therefore, her statement about how no one would ever see her as a superhero sadly reveals some deeper truths about herself.
William is a comic relief character, but that doesn't mean that his bond with his best friend Mark isn't genuine. He is one of the first people to know about Mark's secret life as a superhero, and he strives to help Mark through whatever problem he's facing. This includes Mark's tumultuous relationship with Amber.
While Mark remains in denial about his relationship status, William gives him direct facts about how the relationship had been dead for a while. Mark is suitably offended, but William maintains that he couldn't tell Mark the truth. William is someone who tells people what they need to hear, regardless of whether it's a nice thing to say.
Cecil lacks any superpowers, but he can hold his own in battles due to his vast resources and massive intellect. So when an enemy thinks they have the upper hand on Cecil, the audience and Cecil know that this is dead wrong. Cecil is often good at using the fact that people underestimate him to his advantage, and continuously shows that throughout the series.
There is also an ominous hint to this statement, as Cecil is not always a good person. He is an anti-hero, so it's only natural that a lot of what he says feels like a potential threat.
Rex's MCU counterpart is arguably Iron Man, so the arrogant attitude fits him to a tee. However, he is nowhere near as intelligent as Tony Stark, so his ignorant arrogance often results in very funny lines. This occurs when he realizes that Robot has cloned his body to make a childlike body for himself. Rex is suitably disturbed, and he is never afraid to point out the absurdity of a situation.
However, he takes a brief moment from his horror to understand Robot's choice of person to clone, as Rex believes that everyone wants to be just like him. Even in his confusion, Rex can't help but be full of himself.
Monster Girl has the unfortunate situation of being an adult woman trapped in a child's body due to the way that her powers work. This leads to her having to deal with other people constantly looking down on her or underestimating her.
This includes Rex, who states that she's too adorable to be a Guardian of the Globe, but he quickly changes his tune when she starts beating him to a pulp. In between beating him up, Monster Girl asks Rex if he still thinks that she's adorable. It's certainly hard to think that when she is in her giant monstrous form, and her attitude is equally as rough-edged.
While Allen the Alien doesn't show up for a massive amount of time, he certainly makes an impact. He initially shows up to fight Invincible as part of an exam that takes place across the Galaxy, only to find out that he has come to the wrong planet.
While Allen is initially meant to be a threat, with the admittance of his mistake and nonchalant worry of the trouble he will get into, he immediately becomes an endearing and very funny character. It helps that he is voiced by comedian Seth Rogen, which adds a level of humor to all of Allen's lines, ultimately making them all hilariously iconic.
