Lewis Hamilton is paying tribute to his mom.
During an appearance at the 2022 Dubai Expo ahead of the Bahrain Grand Prix, the 37-year-old F1 star shared his decision to include his mother Carmen‘s maiden name in his own.

“I’m really proud of my family’s name, Hamilton,” he said. “None of you might know that my mum’s name is Larbalestier, and I am just about to put that in my name.”
He explained that he wanted his mom “to continue on with the Hamilton name.”
“I don’t fully understand the idea that when people get married, the woman loses their name,” he added.
The athlete divided his time between his mom and dad, Anthony, growing up. His parents split when he was 2 years old, per Sky Sports.
As for when the change would be implemented, Lewis said it could come as early as this weekend. “We are working on it,” he said.
The Merecedes driver is currently up for his 8th World Championship this year after being tied in points with Red Bull’s Max Verstappen last year.
