The Hellenic Softball Federation has announced the athletes selected to represent Greece at the European Women’s Softball Championship, a continental qualifier for the WBSC Women’s Softball World Cup 2024. The European championship will be played in Sant Boi, Spain, from 24-30 July.
Greece has been allocated in Group A of the European championship, alongside defending champion Italy, Poland, Croatia and Belgium. The event will be played under a new competition system, unveiled by WBSC Europe in February.
“It’s exciting to be able to get back on the field after the two-year absence due to COVID,” said Tony Foti, Head Coach of Greece’s National Softball Team. “We have a terrific mix of veteran athletes along with new group of younger athletes, and a dynamic team. We have high hopes for this summer’s competition.”
The team has planned two training camps, one in the US from 27-30 May, and the last one at the International Olympic Committee Training Academy in Greece, from 17-23 July, right before the opening day of the Euros.
Greece will return to the tournament after their absence in 2021. Their last appearance was in 2019, when the blue team finished in seventh place.
Greece is currently ranked No. 31 in the WBSC Women’s Softball World Rankings.
