Teen Titans wasn't afraid to showcase powerful women. From Raven to Bumblebee, here's how the absolute best stack against each other.
Although the core group had a male majority in Teen Titans, Raven and Starfire held the most power out of the five. Of course, Robin, Cyborg, and Beast Boy could punch and kick their way out of anything, but the two women could fly, blast lasers, and make their eyes glow with rage. They were the ones to truly showcase the "super" in superheroes, as their magical abilities were off the charts.
In addition to the two main Teen Titan members, there were many other powerful female characters, and the series helped set the bar for how women should be represented in the hero genre.
One of the stranger villains to come out of Teen Titans, Mother Mae-Eye made her first appearance in the episode "Mother May-Eye" under the disguise of a loving mother figure to the teenagers. Starfire was the only one to see through her facade, and though the Titans beat her in the end, she had had the upper hand on them for the majority of the episode.
With the power to psychically manipulate, energy-blast, levitate, and teleport, among many others, Mother May-Eye was a true force and a real threat to the future of the team. Her diverse array of magical abilities is what makes her such a strong female opponent and character, and the Titans are lucky that Starfire wised up when she did.
At first mistaken for a male warrior in "Cyborg the Barbarian," Sarasim then yanks off her helmet to reveal her female identity to Cyborg, whose jaw drops. Even though he should have been well versed by that point in how gender does not determine strength, as his Teen Titans buddies Raven and Starfire had proved time and time again, it was still a good lesson for him to learn.
Sarasim was strong in many other aspects of her character. While she certainly had physical prowess in battle, as she displayed against the green slime monsters, she was also a fearless and confident leader to her clan. It's just too bad she was born 5,000 years in the past, as she would have made an excellent addition to the honorary Teen Titans.
The leader of Titans East, with a suave and self-assured personality, Bumblebee helped fill in a lot of what Teen Titans had been missing until her debut episode "Wavelength." She had a lot of spunk to set her apart from the more generic heroes, and as one of the only Black heroines of the series, Bumblebee was a much-needed addition.
Her combination of flight, powerful stingers, and shrinking ability help make her such a capable female character, and Cyborg must have been quite relieved when she helped him fight Brother Blood in "Wavelength" instead of standing in his way, as he probably would have lost.
Jinx went through a lot of character changes by the end of Teen Titans. She appeared in multiple episodes as a primary villain from the H.I.V.E Academy, and her powers were strong enough to competently battle the Titans whenever they got into a brawl. She then decided to renounce her life of crime in "Lightspeed" after Kid Flash told her, "that team of yours is only holding you back."
There was a lot of truth in what Kid Flash had to say. Jinx had the ability to manipulate probabilities (a.k.a. "jinx" her enemies), and she could shoot powerful energy blasts from both her hands and brain. These unique skills contributed to her menacing persona when she was a villain, and they were a welcome assistance when the Titans needed help defeating the Brotherhood in season 5.
Chu Hui was probably the most surprising superhero of the entire series. In "The Quest," after Robin finally makes his way up the mountain, he expects to find the True Master only to discover that Chu Hui, the old woman from the village, was this "master" the entire time.
It's a "don't judge a book by its cover" moment in the series, and it was a delight for all that she ended up being this legendary character. The fact that Robin, an extremely accomplished martial artist in his own right, decided to seek her help shows just what strength Chu Hui had, and she deserves wholeheartedly to be in the top lineup of female characters.
Behind Starfire and Raven, Terra was one of the most important female protagonists in Teen Titans, and she showed a lot of promise within the series though there are still many burning questions Teen Titans fans have about her. Slade and Beast Boy both saw the massive potential she had in her premiere episode "Terra," and most of the strife her character went through was due to the attention that her exceptional abilities brought her.
Slade knew she would be a worthwhile addition to his cause, and though she eventually turned against him in "Aftershock - Part 2," it wasn't easy, as her telekinetic control of earthly substances was a very desirable trait to a villain mastermind like him. These abilities allowed her to mold any form out of earth, smash anyone in her way, and it made her a truly powerful teenager despite her small stature.
With similar Tamaranean powers as Starfire, the Titan's evil sister was an extremely dangerous threat to the group and the world at large. Blackfire appeared twice throughout the series to disrupt Starfire's life, and they had multiple epic battles that proved the might of this nefarious character.
With the ability to blast energy bolts from her palms and eyes, fly, and utilize a skilled set of hand-to-hand combat, Blackfire was a terrifying force in the instances that she fought Starfire. And even though Starfire's abilities were clearly greater, as she beat her sister both times, Blackfire is not one to be messed with.
Madam Rouge was the most interesting character to come out of the Brotherhood storyline, and she's one of the strongest and most likable Teen Titans villains. Her main ability was to stretch and change her body at will, and the combination of these powers with her ruthless personality helped elevate her character to this top status.
By the end of "Titans Together," she was also one of the last villains standing, and she was able to keep her own against multiple Titans at once until her ultimate demise. She was a deadly force, and the team was fortunate that her end came as swiftly as it did. There's no telling what could have happened otherwise.
Although Starfire is a definite second to Raven, that's not to detract from her abilities, as she's still an incredibly capable and powerful warrior. Like Blackfire, she can shoot bolts and fly, and she is also shown to have the Tamaranean trait to withstand extreme temperatures and prolonged exposure to space.
Her fighting style relies a lot on her physical strength in addition to her magical abilities, and she does have the edge over Raven in that respect, as she is shown lifting twice as much as Cyborg in the episode "Overdrive" with little effort. Though known for her quirky personality and funniest Teen Titans quotes, Starfire is an intensely powerful character and she should be remembered as such.
As the daughter of Trigon, the literal "destroyer of worlds," Raven is easily the most powerful female character in the entire Teen Titans universe. Her main powers are flight, telekinesis, energy bolts, and healing, and these are only her surface-level abilities. She's been shown to stop time and cast spells, and she has an affinity with arcane magic that is unrivaled by anyone else in the series.
The only reason that Raven doesn't win every single battle is because she has the capacity, like her father, to destroy the world, and her powers are fueled by emotion. She must keep herself in check, and this self-control impinges on a lot of what she can do. But make no mistake, for if prompted, Raven could seriously take over the universe.
