Reactions to The Batman have been strong. TikTok has been the main way that fans have expressed how they feel--and the results are hilarious.
Matt Reeves's The Batman was a highly anticipated release for superhero movie fans everywhere. Everyone's favorite billionaire vigilante is going through his grunge phase, completely with eyeshadow and a Nirvana playlist. Reactions to this new Batman have been mostly strong and fans definitely have had a lot to say.
Naturally, when fans want to share their opinions on a new film installment or show, they fly to social media to make reenaction and reaction content. One of the biggest platforms used by The Batman audiences has been TikTok, and some of the videos are top-tier comedy.
A surprising and hilarious twist in The Riddler plotline in The Batman was that he moonlighted as a social media influencer on a TikTok-like app. There are many films about the influence of social media and the internet, but few of them have a supervillain hosting lives and accepting emoji gifts.
This video by TikToker @colinspencer5 does an amazing job of contrasting the very serious and intimidating version of The Riddler that straps bombs to people and sends Hallmark cards with ominous riddles in them with The Riddler who has a following on social media and is thanking his fans.
Sometimes when audience members leave the theater with the movie fresh in their minds, they feel like they could become their favorite character. Robert Pattinson gave one of the best performances in The Batman, so it's understandable that many fans could be channeling their inner PattBat.
User @Sam1en articulated this phenomenon perfectly, captioning the video, "Nobody:" and then, "every guy rn after watching The Batman" and showing themselves closing the blinds, putting on sunglasses and generally brooding. They even set it to the Nirvana song featured in the film.
There are quite a few great versions of the Riddler across movies and television shows, and @hunterio009 thought it would be funny to pit the original Riddler against Paul Dano's new interpretation. One key difference being that the quirky and rambunctious nature of the OG Riddler has been replaced with a meeker personality and a thirst for violence.
In Hunter's sketch, the first Riddler opens the interaction by cheekily saying, "Riddle me this! Who's afraid of the big, bad Batman?" to which Dano's Riddler responds, "You riddle me this. I'm gonna rip your guts out and eat 'em." The Original Riddler is, understandably, perturbed.
Some people are excited to see The Batman, but not for the reason that others might expect. There has been a resurgence of passion for the Twilight franchise recently, especially on TikTok, and when it was announced that Robert Pattinson would be playing the famous vigilante, Twilight fans came together to support their favorite emo vampire.
In honor of Edward Cullen and the Twilight saga, @itspaaoola made of video captioned, "Me on the way to the movie theater to go see The Batman." Instead of dressing up in Batman-themed attire, they layered on Twilight merch--complete with an Edward/Jacob Black "cape" and Twilight lunchbox as a bag.
One of the key aspects of Pattinson's Batman has been that the film features Bruce actually putting on the black makeup around his eyes to meld with the face mask, as opposed to it appearing as a "movie magic" moment disappearing when the mask isn't actively on.
This is a great detail for the movie to have, but it's also led to some hilarious jokes about the idea of Bruce putting on his eye makeup as crimes are taking place in the city. @Victor.kunda make a TikTok about the whole thing, playing Bruce Wayne and sitting in front of a mirror with setting powder. The screams of Gotham citizens can be heard in the background, so Bruce turns his getting-ready music up to drown them out.
For a while, there was a rumor going around that Robert Pattinson's Batman would be the first to have a sex scene which would possibly include some frontal nudity on his part. Unfortunately for fans, that rumor proved to be false as the sex scene was purportedly removed in editing.
Many fans, like @3cfilms on TikTok, are mourning the loss of the steamy Bat/Cat scene that could have been, and many have made reaction videos like that. 3C Films's features them falling to their knees, popcorn going everywhere, as dramatic instrumental music plays.
POV videos have continued to be very popular on TikTok, and the trend has continued with The Batman. One of the coolest gadgets Batman used in the film was a shot of adrenaline that he had hidden in his utility belt. It appeared that he was beaten, but he hopped up, full of energy, and pummeled the unsuspecting Riddler goon.
In a hilarious POV, @joesstrawberrylemonade on TikTok made the viewer the goon who had to face Batman after his hit of adrenaline. He, as Batman, popped up from the ground and began to mercilessly punch the camera. It pretty accurately depicts how bad the beating was on-screen and is sure to make viewers chuckle.
While the car chase in The Batman was overwhelmingly epic, there's no denying that it went on for a while. Batman undoubtedly used up a lot of gas, and it's safe to say that the Bat Mobile probably doesn't get the best mileage. In light of this humorous hypothetical scenario, TikTok has started making jokes.
In @dillonkohr's video, he is dressed up as Batman, returning from the infamous car chase and explosion scene. The caption reads, "Batman coming home after using a full tank of 93 on one chase with The Penguin" and then shows him logging onto eBay and searching "Tesla truck motors."
Another rumor that was less of a rumor and more of an actual quote was Robert Pattinson saying that he would start a porn career if The Batman flopped at the box office. Fans made impassioned pleas on social media for people to not see The Batman in theaters or to give it poor reviews in the hopes that Pattinson would keep his promise.
In this TikTok, @nerdystuffilike shares that The Batman currently has a 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and has been quite successful. On one hand, fans are thrilled Pattinson is getting the recognition he deserves. On the other hand, they're mourning the loss of the adult film star that Pattinson could have been.
