Adam Project Director Thanks Ryan Reynolds in Emotional Set Video
Director Shawn Levy has shared an emotional video from the set of his new Netflix film The Adam Project, in which praises star Ryan Reynolds. The Adam Project focuses on a time-traveling fighter pilot (Reynolds), who after crash-landing in 2022, time-traveling fighter pilot, must teams up with his 12-year-old self for a mission to save the future.
This is the second project in a row for Levy and Reynolds. The director and actor teamed up for last summer’s mega-hit comedy action film, Free Guy, which was not only a critical and fan darling, but it was also a winner at the box office, bringing in $331.5 million worldwide. It’s also been nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual Effects, and Free Guy 2 is on the way.
Levy’s video, which is from the set of the bar location featured in The Adam Project, shows the director praising Reynolds' work ethic, saying it is “second to none.” Levy also states that you can see the heart on Reynolds in the film and that the project has allowed him to show off his acting chops. Levy concludes the video by saying how much he adores Reynolds and that he adores “making things” for him. It's no surprise their working relationship will continue with Deadpool 3, where Levy was announced to be directing just days ago.
Reynolds, who usually leans heavily on sarcasm in his social media output, tweeted a rather sweet response, stating that there was nothing in his eyes and that he was actually crying.
The Adam Project has already been a hit for the streaming giant, and it’s also the first blockbuster film that Reynolds has made with Netflix that has garnered positive reviews from critics. By comparison, Reynolds’ last two outings from Netflix, Red Notice, co-starring Dwayne Johnson, and Gal Gadot, and Michael Bay’s 2019 film 6 Underground, both received a 36% on Rotten Tomatoes.
Next up, Reynolds will be sharing the screen with Will Farrell in the Christmas musical, Spirited, which is a modern retelling of Charles Dickens' 1843 novella A Christmas Carol. Reynolds stated after production on that film finished that he would be taking a break from acting for a while (though he presumably will continue being a cell phone and gin mogul). As for Levy, he will be directing an episode of the highly anticipated Season 4 of Stranger Things and will be helming the mini-series All the Light We Cannot See, which tells the story of Marie-Laure, a blind French teenager, and Werner, a German soldier, whose paths collide in occupied France as both try to survive the devastation of World War II.
