Welsh OAP, 71, called group of cyclists ‘English b******s’ before reversing into one in road rage row
A WELSH pensioner shouted “English b***ards” at a group of cyclists before reversing into one.
Gareth Jones, 71, also told them to “go back to England” after overtaking the cyclists on a narrow road.
One of the men he called an “English b***ard” in Llandegfan, Anglesey, last July was Dutch.
The cyclists were riding in single file. One felt the hedgerow on his left arm and Jones’ car narrowly avoid him on his right as it overtook.
Rider Valentin Scambraks also had to pull over to stop himself from falling off.
Jones drove off before stopping his car and reversing, hitting Mr Scambraks’ front wheel.
Prosecutor Diane Williams told Caernarfon Magistrates Court: “It was deliberate reversing and deliberate dangerous driving.”
He was convicted of dangerous driving, failing to stop after a road accident and a racially-aggravated public order offence.
Jones was today sentenced to a six-month community order with a 7pm-7am curfew and a 15-month driving ban.
He must also retake an extended test before he can drive again.

He was also fined £155 for the racially-aggravated public order offence and must pay £360 towards costs and a £95 surcharge.
Magistrates chairman Gordon Browne told him: “You were driving too close to the cyclists you were overtaking.
“You reversed back to one cyclist at speed in an aggressive, deliberate and intimidating manner. There was also damage to a bicycle.”
The court heard how Jones, wo lives alone with his dog in Llanddona, has numerous health problems.
He had a stroke two years ago, has breathing difficulties and takes 15 tablets a day.
