Experience Classic Marvel Art in a Brand New Way in Trippy Fan Project

There are many classic images of Marvel Comics heroes that have become stuck in the fan consciousness. Even though these images are iconic, it's still refreshing when somebody does something new and interesting with it through fan art. And that's exactly what Twitter got with some very trippy, almost psychedelic fan art.

They were posted by an account titled One Big Marvel, whose name is fairly telling of their devotion to the House of Ideas, as is their current reading list of Fantastic Four, Captain America, Heroes for Hire, and Thunderbolts. Normally, the account seems to be dedicated to posting either out-of-context comic panels, or brief synopses with images from prominent back issues. The account also appears to be Marvel exclusive without any mention of comics from other publishers or even any personal tweets.

In between the screenshots of panels, however, One Big Marvel periodically posts these very awesome pieces of fan art. Although it's never revealed the exact process for creating the visuals, it seems as if a single image is taken and then morphed into a repetitive and symmetrical yet obscure pattern. Some of the characters used are immediately obvious by the color scheme such as Captain America and Spider-Man. Other images are a bit more muddled and it takes some focus to see which character was used as the basis for the artwork. These harder to decipher images feature M.O.D.O.K., Thanos, and even Cyclops.

The patterns are quite intricate and resemble the Magic Eye pictures that contained hidden images that were popular in the '90s. They are also oddly reminiscent of tacky '70s wallpaper. In fact, it would be awesome if Marvel officially licensed this work for just that, or even a t-shirt or Christmas sweater. There could be plenty of applications for patterns like this that Marvel marketing could have a field day with.

Adding to the mysteriousness of the images is the fact that they were tweeted without any caption whatsoever. All they were tweeted out with are vague emojis consisting of two eyes and a spiral between them. Although it's thoroughly refreshing to see someone experimenting so wildly with classic artwork, perhaps the greatest out of all of them is a more recent image. Marvel recently released a promotional poster for their Moon Knight Disney+ series. It consists of Moon Knight looking tough in his Mr. Knight persona, and the One Big Marvel account use it to create a very esoteric, black and white kaleidoscope image. It's mesmerizing and will no doubt get Moon Knight fans excited for the show. Just like the classic Marvel Comics images they are based on, each of these pieces of fan art are unique and incredible to look at.
