Animal Crossing Player Creates 3D-Printed Gyroid That Actually Gyrates
An Animal Crossing: New Horizons player created a 3D-printed Gyroid figure whose moving parts allows it to actually gyrate. Nintendo added Gyroids to ACNH Update 2.0 by the dozens late last year, introducingn players to cactus-shaped creatures who serve as the perfect decorative piece. However, they do far more than sit and collect in-game dust. Depending on their respective family of Gyroid, the little creatures also make distinctive sounds. And putting a group of them together can create quite the neat musical tune.
Gyroids weren't all that entered the mix with Animal Crossing: New Horizons' 2.0 patch. As the final major update of consequence, this particular set of change additionally unlocked access to more expansive home storage, cooking mechanics, and extra growable food items. The November 2021 content update marked the return of a couple of fan-favorite characters as well - Animal Crossing's Brewster and Kapp'n - both of whom were conspicuously absent at launch. Unsurprisingly, series faithful continue finding new ways to show their love for these characters and several others.
Today, March 9, Reddit user monkeynicaud shared a video clip of their 3D-printed Gyroid figure. The Animal Crossing: New Horizons-inspired piece bears deep black eyes and looks as though it could be a long-lost cousin of Groot's. It dons a yellow hard hat, too, complete with green highlights and a little fish icon filling out its decorative design. Better still, the Gyroid boasts posable arms and can even gyrate when moved. Who knew Animal Crossings: New Horizons' Gyroids could be even more adorable than they appear in-game? The tiny creature featured in the above clip would make for the perfect desk decoration. In subsequent posts in the Reddit thread, monkeynicaud told commenters they'll try to upload their MyMiniFactory link tomorrow for those who want to build the model themselves.
Of course, there are several other ways for fans to bring the world of Animal Crossing home. Early 2021 saw Nintendo and Build-A-Bear team up for an Animal Crossing-themed collection, for example. Clothing store Gelato Pique plans to roll out a loungewear collection sometime soon that should keep players nice and comfy, too. Plus, Amiibo and Amiibo cards immortalizing various Animal Crossing villagers have hit stores several times in the past. The success of such collectible items and others suggests Animal Crossing faithful won't soon run out of merchandise to collect.
