German publication Bild have ruled out the chance of Borussia Dortmund re-signing rumoured Tottenham target Ousmane Dembele in the summer.
Spurs were heavily linked with a move for Dembele during the January transfer window (TuttoMercatoWeb) after the winger, who is now into the final six months of his contract, reportedly failed to reach an agreement on a new deal with the Catalan giants (Mirror).
ESPN claimed a few days ago that Spurs only decided against signing the 24-year-old in January as the North London club were told they would need to hand the winger a £250,000-a-week contract.
Barca president Joan Laporta admitted recently that the Catalonian giants remain hopeful that Dembele will reconsider his decision and put pen to paper on a new deal with the club (News 18).
Portuguese journalist Pedro Almeida claimed over the weekend that Dortmund are watching Dembele’s situation closely and could make a contract offer to the pacy winger.
However, Bild have now insisted there is no chance of the French international returning to his former stomping ground.
The report claims that Dembele’s antics while pushing for a move to Barca back in 2017 led to the player burning his bridges with the Dortmund hierarchy. It is further explained that the Bundesliga club cannot meet the Frenchman’s salary demands.
Spurs Web Opinion
There is no reason to think that Dembele would not demand the same £250,000-a-week in the summer, particularly given that he could be available on a free transfer. So, I do not think the 24-year-old would be a realistic target for Spurs.
