A majority of Democrats would abandon their country in the face of Russian aggression, according to a Quinnipiac poll published on Monday. By contrast, most Republicans and independents—a majority of American adults—would stand their ground and fight for freedom.
Just 40 percent of Democrats said they would stay and fight for their country in response to a question about what they would do "in the same position as Ukrainians are now," compared with 52 percent who said they would flee like cowards. Republicans said they would stay and fight by a margin of 68 percent to 25 percent, independents by a margin of 57 percent to 36 percent. Overall, Americans rejected the Democratic position: 55 percent said they would stay and fight, while 38 percent said they would leave.
Democrats were far more likely to say the war in Ukraine is giving them anxiety. A significant majority (61 percent) said "yes" in response to a question about whether the conflict has "contributed to you feeling anxious." By contrast, most Republicans and independents said they are keeping their wits about them.
The poll also revealed a startling generational gap that does not bode well for America's future. While a majority (52 percent) of Americans aged 65 and older said they would defend their country against Russian invaders, younger generations were more reluctant. A plurality (48 percent to 45 percent) of Americans between the ages of 18 and 34 said they would abandon their country rather than defend it.
Such is the sorry state of affairs in Joe Biden's America.
