HIT television series Naked and Afraid throws strangers into the wilderness wearing nothing and expecting them to survive for three weeks off the land.
Florida woman Terra, 37, made history during the March 6, 2022 episode of the show as the first-ever transgender woman to compete.

She was assigned a male gender at birth but began transitioning about four years ago.
“People like me don’t get chosen for things like this,” she said on the show.
“I am trans and I don’t care who knows it. What defines me is not how I look or how I act it’s what I do in my life. The things I do in my life are f***ing epic.”
She openly discussed her current process of transitioning, which includes breast augmentation, but she has yet to undergo penile inversion vaginoplasty.
Terra was paired with a South African farmer named Shaun.
When the big reveal happened, Terra asked Shaun if he had any questions.
Regardless of what she may have been expecting, Shaun said: “I’m open-minded, and we’re going to do this together. Don’t worry, I’ve got your back.”
“I appreciate that. And I’ve got your back, too,” Terra replied.
The two hugged and went off to begin their 21-day survival journey together.
Terra received instant respect and support from her teammate, Shaun[/caption]Despite partner Shaun suffering a concussion on day three that forced him to be evacuated from the Zambia, Africa location, Terra lasted the additional 18 days alone to complete the challenge.
At the end of her stint on the show, she shared what she had learned, saying “I know now that if I just stick with it, there’s nothing I cannot do in this world.”
While she may make history as the show’s first trans woman, she wasn’t the first trans person to appear on the show.
Quince Mountain, a trans man from Illinois, was featured on a season 10 episode.
You can tune in to Naked and Afraid on many streaming sites, including Discovery+, Hulu, YouTube TV, and Fubo.
