A new update for Pokémon Scarlet & Violet has arrived, this time touching on the different outfits that come with each version of the game. Like with most games in the Pokémon franchise, Scarlet & Violet will be set in a new region, with both male and female options available for the player-character's avatar and a few minor customization features.
Pokémon Scarlet & Violet was revealed a little over a week ago and already excitement and hype have been ramping. Fans of the series are engaging in fervent online discourse and speculation with regards to the new setting of the game, its slight shift in art style and, of course, the three starter Pokémon. Scarlet & Violet is set to be released this year, following the successful Pokémon Legends: Arceus, which pulled the franchise into the open-world genre. Fall 2021 saw the release of the more traditional Pokémon Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl, which modernized the original Nintendo DS games by implementing improved graphics, better online features, and cursory personalization options. Scarlet & Violet appear to have an open world similar to Arceus, which is likely causing some players to wonder what other steps these upcoming games will take to evolve the series.
While perhaps not the biggest shake-up imaginable, the official Pokémon Twitter account recently shared some info about the starter outfits for each character. The Tweet is accompanied by a graphic displaying that the color scheme of each outfit will depend upon which version of the game is being played, with Pokémon Scarlet's characters boasting an orange-accented, warm-toned ensemble while Pokémon Violet's characters sport a darker, cool-color look. It's unclear if this varied color scheme will be applied to other outfits or objects in the game's world.
For many fans, there's a lot that Scarlet & Violet can learn from Arceus. Unfortunately, one contentious trend absent from Arceus is carried on with these games: the double-game release. Most Pokémon entries come not just as one game, but two, and the differences between the two are so superficial that they cannot be distinguished outside of very specific instances. This variation between outfits is a perfect example of this, as it can be considered little more than a cute detail differentiating the titles.
Of course, it's always best to wait for a game's release before jumping to judgment. There is certainly more that Game Freak can do to make each release feel more distinct from its partner, and it will be interesting to see if they are implemented. Until that time, though, fans will have to see if any more Pokémon Scarlet & Violet differences are revealed.
