NBC's version of the British sitcom The Office has arguably outlasted and outshined the original TV show, but it's not hard to see why. In addition to the fact that the American Office had a much longer lifespan, the over-the-top ridiculousness of the individual characters really left an impression on fans.
It's hard to say which character on The Office is the funniest, but plenty of viewers would make an argument for Dwight Schrute. He may not be intentionally witty, but a lot of his lines are the most memorable. What hilarious Dwight quotes would make the best memes?
Unfortunately, it seems like Dwight very rarely actually lives up to this personal mantra, as even among his absurd office-mates, he does some of the dumbest things in the series. But it's a hilarious but incredibly appropriate sentiment nonetheless.
This classic quote from The Office would also make the perfect meme. It's relatable to everyone but can also be applied to ridiculous situations where someone has done something blatantly idiotic that could have been avoided if the person doing it had just taken this litmus test into consideration.
Dwight clearly considers himself to be a martial arts warrior, despite the fact that his biggest accomplishment in the field of battle was punching Michael in the gut once. However, he's not wrong about what an easy target the eyes are in a fight.
Of course, he expresses their vulnerability in the most ludicrous way possible, which makes it all the more memorable. It's not hard to imagine the internet's meme-sters getting a kick out of this fighting tip.
Dwight's near-complete emotional insensitivity is part of what makes his character so funny and entertaining, and this line perfectly encapsulates why. The silliness of comparing a feeling to a physical weakness is hilarious, and it should come as no surprise that, even when he's trying, Dwight often fails to empathize with other people.
Absurdity is obviously a foundation block in the world of memes, so this quote that elicits a laugh even out of context would make for perfect meme-ing.
Dwight might not be the most relatable character on The Office, but one thing that he shares in common with most other people in the world is a deep love of all things Star Wars.
Clearly this quip is a play on the classic "always a bridesmaid, never the bride" saying, but this version is arguably a more fun way of making the same analogy. Given how many awesome cross-fandom Star Wars memes there are in the world, this line is just waiting for its moment.
It sort of sounds like Dwight was channeling Robert California when he described himself in this way, but it's still classic Schrute too.
For the most part, this entire self-assessment is nonsensical and vague, which is exactly why it works and would easily lend itself to meme formatting. Add in the fact that Dwight uses six words to sum himself up in three words, and it's obvious that this quote is just silly enough for an internet gag.
Although memes are good fun for every month out of the year, this particular message is obviously tailor-made for some Christmas goofs.
It may have been inspired by Dwight's snowball war with Jim in the classic Office Christmas episode "Classy Christmas," but this line is arguably even funnier out of context, and it would make for a fantastic holiday card. And, given that this was one of the few instances where Dwight defeated Jim in a prank battle, Dwight's sentiments about fear seem to be spot-on.
Memes are obviously a cornerstone of the internet, and sometimes meme lore can be incomprehensibly complex to someone who is unfamiliar with the content that's being riffed on.
But the appeal of Dwight's commentary about "Tweeter" works as a joke for a very obvious reason. Although Dwight isn't a boomer in age, he's certainly a boomer in spirit, and memes love that whole out-of-touch vibe, so it's honestly a little surprising that jokes about Dwight's need for "Tweeter" have yet to make the rounds on Twitter.
No one would have ever accused Dwight Schrute of being friendly, and perhaps this is just one small insight as to why. Most people see a smile as a basic common courtesy, but as Dwight so succinctly explains, he sees it as a sign of one ape submitting to the other.
Of course, someone who believes themselves to be the ultimate alpha would take friendliness as a signal of fear, so this quote would work as the perfect send-up of that alpha internet culture.
This would certainly make typing more complicated, but clearly Dwight would be willing to make that sacrifice if he felt like it made him a bigger badass.
Of course, the utility of this kind of anatomy is questionable, but this particular line is so aggressive while being so absurd that it makes for the perfect internet joke. It's also the kind of quote that could probably be applied hilariously to many different scenarios, which is what memes are all about.
Deep down, there is a tender and loving heart within Dwight Schrute. But, someone would have to go very deep down to find it, and most people don't even get the chance.
The complete lack of sentimentality as well as Dwight's complete misunderstanding of what "all you need is love" is actually meant to convey is what makes this line a classic, and is why it would be prime material for a litany of different internet memes.
