I’m a baby sleep expert – why noise is GOOD for your little one to help them drift off
YOU NO longer need to tiptoe around the house while your baby is sleeping.
Liesel Teen, a mom expert and baby labor nurse, revealed in a social media video why being louder while your infant sleeps is actually more comforting for them than snoozing in silence.
According to Teen, you don’t need to shush people while your baby is sleeping anymore.
The baby labor nurse shared that while the baby is in the mother’s womb, it’s actually quite noisy.
“As baby’s auditory system develops (typically beginning around week 22-24), baby encounters lots of different sounds within your body,” she said.
She said that such sounds include those of the mother’s heartbeat, blood flow, breathing, and digestive system.
Teen said these noises in the womb can be compared to the volume of a vacuum, making the constant loud noises quite comforting to the newborn.
“These maternal sounds in utero can range from approximately 70 to 91 decibels,” said Teen.

“A vacuum cleaner noise level is roughly 70 to 80 decibels.”
She recommended using a white noise machine to help soothe your tot to sleep.
Additionally, senior instructor in pediatrics and neurology at the University of Rochester, Laura E. Tomaselli, M.D., shared the same advice with PARENTS.
“The more a baby gets used to typical house noises, the better he will likely be at sleeping through them,” she said.
For an even better night’s rest, soothe your baby to sleep without constant patting.
In fact, one mom ingeniously leaves a rice-filled rubber glove on her baby’s stomach to help him peacefully doze off.
