A Study In Gray: Nomos Glashütte Launches New Variant of the Tangente Neomatik

For 30 years, Nomos Glashütte’s Tangente has been a textbook example for the beauty of simplicity and that a decent design works with a variety of colors and twists. The latest version of the Bauhaus inspired three-hand timepiece, which is distinguished by five Arabic numerals and a bold small seconds sub-dial at 6 o’clock, is presented with a rhodium-plated dial and color coordinated hands and christened Tangente 39 Platinum Gray.

The subtle gray hue further underscores the distinctive aura of the Tangente, which was one of the first four watch models from Nomos that were showcased at Baselworld 30 years ago when the brand debuted at the trade show. Today, it is one of the bestselling watches in Germany and available in a host of variations, case sizes and added complications. As fans of the brand are aware of, the word “neomatik” on the dial refers to the automatic manufacture movement DUW 3001 that ticks beneath it.

Introduced in 2015, it is praised for its slender height of just 3.2 mm that allows to integrate it into notably thin cases and its chronometric precision. Its top-notch finishings in traditional Glashütte style, such as the three-quarter plate with Glashütte ribbing, blued screws, and Nomos perlage, can be admired through a pane of sapphire in the caseback. The Tangente neomatik platinum gray is available with a diameter of 39 mm and 35 mm. Both ride a Horween Genuine Shell Cordovan strap. The price of the Tangente 39 Platinum Gray is $3,780 with a sapphire case back and $3,390 with a closed caseback. The 35-mm version retails for $3,460 with see-through caseback and for $3,070 with closed caseback.
