How To Unlock the Diving Mask in Horizon Forbidden West
The Diving Mask in Horizon Forbidden West is one of Aloy's newest toys to unlock. Taking place six months after the events of Horizon Zero Dawn, Aloy continues her adventures to the Forbidden West. After a plague has ravaged the land, Aloy and her friends travel to this location to find the source of the problem. Unlike Horizon Zero Dawn, Forbidden West is full of different types of terrain to explore. While much of the game will take place on the surface, a big part of this game is its underwater exploration. In order to fully take advantage of these aquatic areas, Aloy will need to get the Diving Mask.
It is possible to jump into the water at any point, but Aloy is only allowed to hold her breath for a limited time. The Horizon Forbidden West enemies will follow Aloy regardless. With the Diving Mask, Aloy is able to stay underwater for much longer - indefinitely, actually. This will allow players to find all of its hidden secrets, including hidden loot and Metal Shards that can be found on the ocean floor. Although, Aloy will need to wait until much later in the main story to obtain this item. It's unlocked as part of Horizon Forbidden Wests' main story.
To unlock the Diving Mask in Horizon Forbidden West, players will need to complete the "Sea of Sand" mission. This is the 11th main story mission of the game and will task Aloy with searching for the ruins of Las Vegas. It won't take too long for Horizon Forbidden West players to reach this point. Three characters will task Aloy with finding objects underwater but they mention that they can't hold their breath that long. One of these people offers to help Aloy craft the Diving Mask if players can collect 1 Compressed Air Capsule, 1 Machine Knee Cap, and 1 Synthetic Membrane.
These are the locations of the items needed in order to obtain the Diving Mask in Horizon Forbidden West:
- Compressed Air Capsule: It can be found in the flooded elevator shaft that is marked on the map. Players can just swim down and the Compressed Air Capsule will be there.
- Synthetic Membrance: Defeating the Bellowback enemies will cause them to drop this item. They are weak to Frost attacks.
- Machine Knee Cap: Defeating Leapslashers will reward players with this item. They are weak to Electrical attacks.
After collecting all the proper materials, Aloy should return back to the NPC. They will show Aloy a workbench where they can craft the Diving Mask. This is an item that will remain with Aloy throughout the entire game and permits her to explore the depths of the sea. There's tons of hidden treasure to find and underwater exploration in this entry is visually breathtaking. Since this is part of Horizon Forbidden West's main story, it's impossible to miss out on the Diving Mask.
