AN AUSTRALIAN edition of The Office is reportedly in the early stages of development.
The original series, which had Ricky Gervais’ David Brent at the forefront, inspired the US remake with Steve Carell as the impetuous boss Michael Scott.
After the show ended in 2013, fans of the hit sitcom were left with a huge hole in their heart – until now.
But now, according to the Herald Sun, an Australian reboot of the series is in the pipeline, with the lead part rumoured to go to a woman.
Actress Isla Fisher and comedian Jim Jeffries are rumoured to be involved in the upcoming project, while stand-up comic Magda Szubanski has been considered to play the boss.
Five-time Golden Globe host Ricky starred in the BBC mockumentary, which was co-created by actor Stephen Merchant, followed the day-to-day life of the Wernham Hogg Paper Company’s Slough Office.
Martin Freeman, Mackenzie Crook and Lucy Davis also made up the main cast in the sitcom, which ran for just two series and a two-part special, before ending for good in 2003.
While across the pond, the American adaptation which starred John Krasinski, Mindy Kaling, Ed Helms, and Rainn Wilson still remains one of the most popular sitcoms of all time, running nine seasons from 2005 to 2013.
Steve said goodbye to his colleagues at Dunder Mifflin after seven seasons in 2011.
And despite being asked several times, the 56-year-old actor has admitted that he wouldn’t want to be a part of the show if they made a reboot.
The Office is available to watch on BBC iPlayer and The Office US is available to stream on Netflix.
