Alvaro Morata, who was linked with a move to Tottenham in January, has admitted that his preference was always to stay at Juventus.
Morata is on loan at Juventus from Atletico Madrid but it was reported last month that Spurs were trying to snap up the striker after the Old Lady completed a deal for Dusan Vlahovic (The Daily Mirror).
However, the Spain international ended up staying in Turin, and The Times reported after the window closed that it was not due to a lack of effort from Spurs.
The report explained that Antonio Conte’s men were willing to accept Atletico’s demands of a guaranteed fee for Morata but the North London club failed to ‘persuade’ the 29-year-old to make the switch.
The former Chelsea striker has refused to divulge too many details regarding the transfer saga, insisting that Massimiliano Allegri made it clear he had a part to play at the Allianz Stadium despite Vlahovic’s arrival.
When asked about interest in him in January, Morata told TuttoMeractoWeb: “It’s not important, I talked to the coach about it when the transfer market was around and we talked about the ideas he had about the team.
“He told me how important Dusan’s arrival would be for me and that’s how it was. I’m happy to be here because if it were up to me I would always stay here.”

I would not be surprised if Spurs went back in for Morata in the summer as the 29-year-old would offer Conte a lot more options, given that he can serve as Kane’s backup and could also be paired up front with the England captain.
However, it remains to be seen if Morata would want to join Tottenham, knowing that he could be used as an understudy to Kane.
