ABC sitcom Black-Ish has had a great 8-season run. The storylines have been incredible and so have been the quotes, which never fail to be funny.
Fans of ABC's Black-Ish will be a little bit sad that the sitcom is coming to an end. But not many shows get to last 8 seasons nowadays so the long run will always be appreciated. Many things make the series great, including its numerous subplots and likable characters. But as is the case with other sitcoms, humor is always the main pillar.
Thanks to great writing, each character comes off as funny, no matter the situation. Whether it's Pops trying to act mature or Diane being a menace, as usual, there is always a moment worthy of triggering chuckles. Numerous hilarious comments are sprinkled all over the show but which ones among them are really impressive?
To punish him for being a stubborn child, Dre mocks Junior and declares that he will go without food for a few hours to learn a lesson. Well, Junior doesn't like the "gift of hunger" so he insists on returning it
Dre's attempts to be smart always end up backfiring and the same happens here. One of the things that make Junior one of the best Black-Ish characters is that has never been one to simply obey whenever an adult issues a directive, especially if it's one he doesn't like. He has demonstrated several times that he likes his food too, hence the "gift of hunger" is something he isn't going to accept.
Diane soon grows tired of being punished and seeing her brothers and sisters go through the same. She thus advises her parents to humble themselves or else...
Diane constantly thinking about sinister things has always been one of the best running gags in Black-Ish. One thing she does best is issue threats and her parents aren't off-limits. She lets them know that if they don't act right, they just might lose her. This is something Bow would never want to happen since motherhood means as much to her as being a career woman.
Zoey goes to her grandfather Pops, for advice when she unsuccessfully tries to get her mother to listen to her. Later, Bow asks Pop how he managed to give her daughter such great advice.
Pops believes that the quality of advice isn't in the content but in the tone used to deliver it. Even if the most basic of words are spoken in a nice voice, there is a guarantee that the recipient will find them useful. The pop-culture reference makes the quote even more mirthful since Morgan Freeman is one of the actors with the best voices.
Dre is intrigued when he finds him wearing dress slacks. However, Charlie isn't wearing socks and when Dre wonders why this is the case, Charlie blames it on prayer.
Charlie is the most eccentric character on the show, so it isn't surprising for him to try and make a fashion statement but still forget to wear socks. He isn't the most religious person either, which makes his excuse even more amusing. Even better is that he goes on to brush it off as a minor inconvenience.
Junior's parents are shocked when they return and find him home yet he is supposed to be in college. They ask him why he isn't where he is supposed to be and he bluntly cites a lack of interest ins studies.
Junior's nonchalance is what makes the quote such a golden one. Normally, children ought to freak out whenever their parents find them at home during school time. Not Junior, who declares that school has fallen low in his list of priorities. But despite how lightly he takes the matter, his parents don't.
Dre is furious when he sees the Airbnb lady's car parked far away from her spot. He insists on calling the cops but Jack argues that the Johnsons don't snitch. Dre disagrees, claiming it can be termed snitching when you are rich.
Since he is a successful man, Dre feels it should be okay for him to do things that would normally be frowned on by the Black community. One such thing is snitching. He argues that since other wealthy people are always quick to report matters, he should be allowed to do so without being judged.
As soon as he turns 13, Junior becomes more unruly. His parents warn him that he will be caned but he argues that he is too grown for such kind of punishment.
Like Diane, Junior always makes plenty of mistakes but doesn't see the justification for any kind of punishment. At 13, he considers himself to be too grown to be spanked since he is officially a teenager. As usual, his parents don't see things that way, bringing up the fact that as long as someone still has an ass, they are eligible for spanking.
Dropping out of college is one of the worst decisions made by Black-Ish characters and Zoey isn't surprised because she saw it all coming. Just, 3 days earlier, she had tweeted that her brother might not survive in college.
As the eldest and most disciplined child in the family, Zoey always prides herself on being a person who understands her siblings. She knows what makes each of them tick and that's why she's so thrilled to find out that her prediction about Junior came true. Her words highlight her social media obsession too.
On one Halloween occasion, Dre's children refuse to take part in the Johnson family tradition of pranking each other. He, therefore, sits them down to explain why this is very important.
.As dysfunctional as his family tends to be at times, Dre has always managed to make sure they all work as a unit. As such, he expects them all to agree whenever the family decides to take a specific course of action. But as the children grow, they become less and less interested in doing the things he desires, something that frustrates him.
The next time their grandmother Ruby comes to visit, a curious Jack asks Zoey why she only comes when Pops allegedly goes to Bermuda. Zoey explains that part of their divorce agreement involves Pops handing over the car and going away whenever Ruby shows up.
Pops and Ruby cherish their Lincoln Continental, therefore, Zoey should refer to it while making fun of their divorce arrangement. She cant understand why they opt to share a car yet they can't stand being in the house together. Still, her explanation is good enough for Jack to understand what's going on.
