MANAGING curly hair is no small feat, but refreshing your curls can be a one-step process if you have the right tools at hand.
One curly-haired TikTok user revealed she repurposed a common household appliance to style her hair and hasn’t looked back since.
In a recent video, college student Julia revealed the secret behind her one-step morning hair routine: a handheld garment steamer.
Julia used the portable steamer by focusing on the frizzy areas in her hair.
Holding the tool several inches away from her hair, she scrunched the curls toward her scalp until they regained their shape.
Curly hair looks its best when it’s well-hydrated. A steamer combines water with heat, which helps porous hair “open up,” allowing curls to absorb more moisture.
The steam method also requires less drying time than re-wetting the hair with a spray bottle, and it’s less messy than splashing hair with water at the sink.
After the quick steaming, her curls were shapely and glossy.
A portable steamer should be used with caution, but Julia said she’s been using the trick for three years and has learned to operate the steamer safely.
“I use a good quality steamer,” Julia said in the comments, which stops the device from getting too hot to handle or spitting water out the sides.
“Be careful,” said one user. “I literally gave myself second-degree burns with one of those.”
“Believe me I have,” Julia responded. “I’ve gotten better at it!”
Others commended her for sharing such a fast way to re-humidify hair.
“This is so smart,” said one woman. “I’ve just been going to the sink and rubbing water on my head like a cat cleaning itself.”
Other TikTok users have found unique ways to boost their curls, including implementing a mixing bowl full of water into their hair routine.
And Olaplex devotees should know about the $12 alternative that perfects hair just as well for less than half the price.
