Oman calls on consumers to stop using two US baby milk powder formulas
Oman’s health ministry called on consumers on Monday to stop using two baby milk powder formulas produced in the US due to possible bacterial contamination.
The two baby milk powder formulas are Similac EleCare (0-12 months) and Similac EleCare Jr (1 year and older), the ministry said on Twitter.

Both formulas are only sold under a prescription in pharmacies, the ministry said, adding that they are only used under medical supervision.
The products are used to help with protein digestibility, short bowel syndrome and cases that require nutritional needs based on amino acids.
“The health ministry was notified by the manufacturing company in the US that [these two baby milk formulas] may be contaminated with bacteria. [We] hence call on consumers to stop using these products,” the ministry said.
On February 18, the US FDA advised consumers not to use Similac, Alimentum, or EleCare powdered infant formulas if the first two digits of the code on the container are 22 through 37 and the code contains K8, SH, or Z2 and if the expiration date is April 2022 or later.
The FDA added that it has investigated four illnesses – three for Cronobacter and one for Salmonella - related to these infant formulas, noting that all four cases were hospitalized and Cronobacter may have contributed to death in one case.
