Legends: Arceus - Every Mass Outbreak Pokémon In Obsidian Fieldlands
Pokémon Legends: Arceus features several open-world events that affect various Pokémon species, but its Mass Outbreaks are restricted only to a few species in each area. Mass Outbreaks occur when a particular species of Pokémon experiences an increased spawn rate in a specific area. Legends: Arceus’ overworld sprites make spotting these instances much easier, but players unsure of an Outbreak’s restrictions may have a more difficult time preparing for one.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus, while not an open-world game, is the first free-roaming Pokémon title, giving players access to five unique areas (alongside Jubilife Village). Players embark on adventures from the village and encounter different creatures depending on the environment they enter. Pokémon Legends: Arceus mirrors an authentic safari, restricting specific creatures’ appearances to darkness, rain, or other conditions. However, Mass Outbreaks are quite different and have set species that can appear during their occurrences. While these events can help fill out the Pokédex, it’s unfortunately restricted to specific species for each area players lurk in.
While there is no way to force a Mass Outbreak in Pokémon Legends: Arceus, player characters are informed about any Outbreaks by the Security Corps while leaving Jubilife Village. The event appears on the map when players choose their destination and appear again on the local map. Mass Outbreaks are the mass spawning of a single Pokémon species, which increases Shiny odds to 1/158, but may overwhelm players’ parties if encounters aren’t prepared for lengthy battles. There’s no guarantee that players will encounter one of these events, as their instances are rare compared to Legends: Arceus’ time-space distortions.
The Obsidian Fieldlands is the first area to explore freely. It houses many weaker, more common Sinnoh Pokémon like Bidoof and Starly. The site is filled with tall grass and resources to master core gameplay mechanics and systems, ensuring players have everything they need to explore safely and battle. While players unlock new areas when they progress in the story, players can access new monsters to catch and battle. As experienced Pokémon Legends: Arceus players may notice, several rare Pokémon are missing from the list. One of the most noticeable is Munchlax, the baby Pokémon stage before Snorlax. While both are catchable in the Obsidian Fieldlands, Legends: Arceus’ Alpha Snorlax can be an intimidating encounter. Players must settle for encountering rarer creatures naturally in the wilds without the assistance of Mass Outbreaks to help fill out their Pokédex. Additionally, some monsters and Outbreaks may be inaccessible depending on which rideable Pokémon are available in Legends: Arceus, further limiting species at various points in the story.
Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Mass Outbreaks have many uses for players, including making Pokémon Legends: Arceus’ Shiny Hunting easier. While Mass Outbreaks aren’t new to the Pokémon franchise, Legends: Arceus presents a unique opportunity to experience an Outbreak with overworld sprites.
