Fallout 76 Reveals 2022 Roadmap, Taking Players Outside of Appalachia

Bethesda has revealed its 2022 roadmap for Fallout 76 which will include new updates, quests, and even new locations that fans of the series may recognize. Fallout 76 had a rather controversial launch in 2018 due to its extremely buggy state and unfulfilled promises, but Bethesda didn't give up on the ambitious game. Over the last few years, Fallout 76 has become a competent and enjoyable MMO that has won some fans back after the disappointing debut.

Although there are still some glitches in Fallout 76, Bethesda has ironed the game out and made it something players are willing to consistently play. There have been some post-launch controversies, however, as Bethesda introduced things like premium subscription services that allowed players to play on private servers. Nonetheless, Fallout 76 more closely resembles the game that the developer showed at E3 in 2018 after its extensive road to recovery. Bethesda has continued to support the game with new content in the years after launch and 2022 looks to be one of its biggest years yet.

Bethesda has revealed the 2022 roadmap for Fallout 76 which appears to be rather expansive with new content and quality of life updates like new PVP settings. Given the level of quality of Fallout 76's existing seasonal updates, these should excited players. This spring, Bethesda will add the Invaders from Beyond seasonal event which will add UFOs and aliens across the map. In the summer, the new Test Your Metal update will introduce the Test Your Metal, Eviction Notice, and Moonshine Jamboree public events. The fall will feature the return of Fallout 3's The Pitt, taking players out of Appalachia for quests that feature dialogue trees and new NPCs. Finally, in the winter, a Nuka-World roadshow will arrive in Appalachia with new loot, public events, and a new region boss.

Recently, a fan discovered Fallout 76 was bundled with a cheap magazine in France and retailers are still selling the game at a discounted price, so the game is pretty accessible. It's unclear if Fallout 76 will ever become free-to-play, but for now, players don't have to front a lot of money to get in on the action. 2022 looks to be a big, ambitious year for the game, so players may want to hop aboard now and build their character up for the arrival of the new content.

Fallout 76 looks to be tied into older entries in the series with the return of both aliens and The Pitt. Both of these things were featured prominently in expansions for Fallout 3, so it'll be interesting to see if Bethesda continues to revisit old concepts in the MMO. Now that players will be able to venture outside of Appalachia, perhaps more locations like New Vegas will be added in future Fallout 76 updates.
