Putin ready for talks on security issues – Peskov
Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russian leader Vladimir Putin is ready to negotiate on the topic of security guarantees.
“Firstly, President Putin has always demanded negotiations and diplomacy. And, in fact, he initiated the issue of security guarantees for the Russian Federation. Ukraine is only part of a larger problem of security guarantees for Russia and, of course, President Putin is ready to negotiate,” a Kremlin spokesman said in an interview with CNN.
Recall that at the end of 2021, Russia took the initiative to conclude legally binding documents on the provision of mutual security guarantees with the United States and the North Atlantic Alliance. The reason for this was, as noted in the Kremlin, the “military development” of the territory of Ukraine. The parties held several rounds of negotiations in various formats, but so far there has been no announcement of any agreements.
Recently, Western politicians and the media have been accusing Russia of preparing an “invasion” of Ukraine while continuing to supply Kiev with lethal weapons. Dmitry Polyansky, First Deputy Permanent Representative of Russia to the UN, stressed that the statements of foreign media that Moscow is allegedly preparing to “attack” the territory of Ukraine cause only laughter and surprise.
