Iraq: Pro-Iranian Forces Blew Up Four US Supply Convoys
On February 10, four convoys moving logistic supplies and military equipment for the US-led coalition came under attack in different parts of Iraq.
The attacks took place as follows:
- The first convoy was targeted with two improvised explosive devices (IEDs) as it was passing near the city of Samawah, the capital of the southern province of al-Muthanna. The Islamic Resistance in Iraq – ‘Ashab al-Kahf claimed responsibility for the attack.
- The second convoy was targeted with an IED near the city of Sumer in the southern province of al-Qadisiyyah. The attack was also carried out by the Islamic Resistance in Iraq – ‘Ashab al-Kahf.
- The third convoy was hit with two IEDs as it was passing in the city of Samarra in the northern province of Saladin. The al-Muhandis Revenge Brigade claimed responsibility for the attack.
- The fourth convoy was targeted with an IED in the western province of al-Anbar. So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack.
Pro-Iranian forces in Iraq have been waging an insurgency against the US-led coalition since the assassination of Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis, Deputy-Commander of the Popular Mobilization Units, and Iran’s Quds Force Commander, Maj. Gen. Qassim Soleimani, more than two years ago.
The main goal of this insurgency is to push US forces out from Iraq. However, Washington does not appear to be planning to leave the country any time soon.
