Sara Goodroom's Major League Baseball (MLB) career gets to the next level. After becoming the first woman to serve as a minor league hitting coordinator (Milwaukee Brewers) in early 2021, she has signed on with the Houston Astros. She will serve as their player development director. She will report to assistant general manager for player development Pete Putila.
"It has been a really big transition for me," Goodroom said to the MLB website. "At times, definitely overwhelming but also exciting. So a lot of the job right now is getting to know people, getting to know how the organization operates, and I'm going to continue to do that moving forward."
A former college softball player (University of Oregon, 2012-2015), Goodrum earned a master's degree in exercise and sports science from the University of Utah.
She becomes one of the highest-ranking women in MLB, joining Marlins general manager Kim NG, Giants major league coach Alyssa Nakken, Yankees Low-A manager Rachel Balkovec, Red Sox Double-A player development coach Katie Krall.
