Candice Patton, who portrays Iris West-Allen in the Arrowverse, is teasing a potential death coming in The Flash season 8. The latest season of The Flash kicked off in a big way with the special Armageddon 5-part event that united Barry Allen with other heroes in the Arrowverse. While not a traditional crossover, it saw characters like Black Lightning, Sentinel, The Atom, Batwoman, and the new Green Arrow come into the fold as part of Barry's storyline. Following Armageddon, The Flash season 8 has been on an extended break that will last when the DC drama returns on its new night, Wednesday, March 9.
The Flash's future has been a bit unclear as the show has yet to be renewed for season 9. However, Grant Gustin, who portrays the titular hero, was recently reported to be finalizing a new deal for The Flash season 9. Gustin will be contracted for 15 episodes if the deal goes through, making next season a bit shorter than its ongoing 18-episode order. The actor would also be getting a salary raise as Gustin would reportedly be making $200,000 per episode. The renewal would also mean that The Flash will officially become the longest-running Arrowverse series on The CW by surpassing Arrow.
While The Flash season 8 is less than a month away from its return, it appears that a potential character death is coming. Patton revealed recently on Instagram a new look from an upcoming episode that is currently shooting in Vancouver, Canada. While showing off her current wardrobe for the unspecified episode, Patton added the hashtag #funeralattire, making it clear that she has been filming funeral scenes. Check out the images below:
Based on the fact that she is still sporting her red hair, the attire is definitely not for a flashback. What is hard to guess is exactly what character is getting killed off, if it's one of the main players. It is also possible that it could be for a new character that is getting introduced during The Flash season 8 that somehow doesn't make it by the time this specific episode airs. However, it's worth noting that Rick Cosnett's Eddie Thawne and Robbie Amell's Ronnie Raymond will be back in the second half of the season. If their characters are somehow resurrected, perhaps one of them gets tragically killed off again.
While it's a cryptic post, it does raise the stakes for The Flash season 8 when it returns in March, especially if it's one of the series regulars. Aside from this potential death, there is a lot to look forward to in the back half of the season. The first episode back will see the return of Jordan Fisher and Jessica Parker Kennedy as Bart and Nora West-Allen, respectively. Armageddon part 5 teased at the very end that they are messing with time again as episode 6, "Impulsive Excessive Disorder," will see Impulse and XS travel to 2014. With only a few weeks remaining before the mid-season premiere, it will be intriguing to see which character might bite the dust in The Flash season 8.
