MUSICIAN Sting has sold his entire back catalogue to Universal Music in a £220million deal.
His solo work and his albums with The Police are covered by the deal.
Sting has sold the rights to his music including hits such as Roxanne and Every Breath You Take[/caption]Hits such as Roxanne, Message in a Bottle, Every Breath You Take, Fields Of Gold and Shape Of My Heart were included.
He is the latest in a string of top-selling artists to offload song rights and comes after Universal bought Bob Dylan’s back catalogue in December 2020 for £220million.
Sting, 70, said: “It is absolutely essential to me that my career’s body of work has a home where it is valued and respected — not only to connect with long-time fans in new ways, but also to introduce my songs to new audiences, musicians and generations.
“Throughout my career, I have enjoyed a long and successful relationship with UMG as my label.
“So it felt natural to unite everything in one trusted home as I return to the studio ready for the next chapter.”
Sting, born Gordon Sumner in Wallsend, North Tyneside, has sold more than 100million albums during his career, landing 17 Grammys and three Brits.
