A new piece of Encanto and Frozen crossover fan art imagines an episode of Olaf Presents dedicated to Disney's latest hit animated movie.
A piece of crossover fan art imagines Frozen's Olaf and Sven as Encanto characters Mirabel and Bruno. The latter animated film is Disney's latest all-ages hit, scoring positive reviews and enjoying an exclusive theatrical run for 30 days before releasing on Disney+ on December 24. While it underperformed during its time at the box office, Encanto's popularity exploded following its streaming debut, reaching levels of fan interaction that have perhaps not been seen since Frozen took the world by storm in 2013.
The film's soundtrack, which features songs written by Hamilton creator Lin-Manuel Miranda, has been a particular area of success. In addition to topping the US Billboard 200 as an album, the song "We Don't Talk About Bruno" has been a runaway hit, holding the #1 spot on the singles chart for several weeks. The number's popularity has inspired a TikTok trend of recreating the Encanto sequence in live-action, with some of the film's voice cast even joining in on the fun.
Given all the Encanto cosplay happening on social media, one fan thinks its time for Olaf and Sven to get in on the action. Twitter user @danisherrif5 shares an artwork calling for a dedicated episode of Olaf Presents, the Disney+ series of shorts in which the living snowman voiced by Josh Gad acts out some of the House of Mouse's most successful animated movies, both old and new. Tagging both Gad and the streaming service, the caption jokes that, with this image, most of the work is already done. Check out the original post below:
Should Disney ever produce Olaf Presents season 2, it would be surprising if Encanto weren't in the next batch of recreated movies. The film about a magical Colombian family's struggle to keep their gifts when Mirabel, the only one in her generation not to receive one, notices their miracle starting to wane has connected with audiences for multiple reasons. In addition to the catchy music, the movie has received praise for its cultural fidelity and handling of complex themes, including intergenerational trauma and the importance of mental health.
Whether they get the Frozen treatment or not, it's very likely that more accolades are on the way for the Encanto team. The film picked up Academy Award nominations in the Best Animated Feature, Best Original Score, and Best Original Song categories, and while "We Don't Talk About Bruno" not being submitted for the last is a shame, "Dos Oruguitas" is still considered the likely favorite for the golden statuette. Encanto will surely have many fans cheering for it on Oscar night, but it looks set for Disney canonization regardless of the outcome.
