RFK Cars Come Up Short in LA Clash
LOS ANGELES (Feb. 6, 2022) – RFK Racing’s visit to the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum ended early Sunday afternoon after both Ford Mustangs came up short in advancing to the Clash.
On a brand new surface with a unique format, qualifying Saturday evening set the tone for Sunday’s full schedule of heat races, last chance qualifiers and ultimately the main event. Both Brad Keselowski and Chris Buescher were on the front order of qualifying, with speeds later in the session ultimately proving to be quicker.
Keselowski, piloting the shiny Violet Defense machine, put himself in heat race No. 2 Sunday afternoon and was not one of the top-4 cars to advance, pushing him to one of the two last chance qualifiers. In a chaotic 50-lap event, Keselowski had the transfer spot with just a few laps remaining but was passed near the end to come up a spot short of advancing to the main.
Buescher found himself in a similar position in the Fastenal Ford with a chance to mix it up halfway through his LCQ, but missed the transfer position by a few spots.
With NASCAR’s annual exhibition race in the books, the focus turns to Daytona Speedweeks, which get underway next week at Daytona International Speedway. Track activity begins Feb. 15 and the week culminates with the Daytona 500 on Sunday, Feb. 20 (2:30 p.m. ET, FOX).
