FF7 Remake Mod Transforms Cloud Into Joaquin Phoenix's Joker

A new PC mod for Final Fantasy VII Remake reimagines Cloud as Joaquin Phoenix's version of The Joker. Nearly two years after the title's launch on PS4, FF7 Remake finally received a PC port late last year in December. Square Enix published the game exclusively on the Epic Games Store to the chagrin of those who use Steam as their platform of choice. However, many would argue the remake isn't ready for primetime on PC regardless of the launcher.

This particular version of Final Fantasy 7 Remake launched in a poor state, with unstable frame rates even proving a problem for those with high-end rigs. Notably, the graphical fidelity suffered a fair few hiccups as well, especially in the textures department. Close-ups on character models look so out of sorts, in fact, that modders felt the need to fix 530 NPC faces in FF7R's PC version. Some members of the modding community have used their skills to add levity to the experience, though, with one mod, in particular, reimagining Sephiroth as McDonald's mascot Ronald McDonald.

PC modder Tindja uploaded their Joker Cloud mod to Nexus Mods for Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which adorns Cloud Strife in Joker-style face makeup. The design seems to specifically borrow from Joaquin Phoenix's version of the iconic Batman foe in Joker (2019), evident in the blue diamond shapes over his eyes and the red eyebrows. Of course, this altered design for Cloud also dons bright green hair, though the hairstyle itself remains unique to the Final Fantasy hero. As previously mentioned, The Joker mod hardly counts as the first time modders have dressed a Final Fantasy 7 character in clown couture. Sephiroth's Ronald McDonald FF7R mod, cleverly dubbed Sephironald, has likely fueled more than its fair share of nightmares in recent weeks, for example. Given the creativity of the PC modding community, such creations will probably continue to make the rounds for a long time to come.

Now that Final Fantasy 7 Remake is playable on more platforms, series faithful patiently await news of the remake's second chapter. During a recent FF7 25th anniversary stream, Producer Yoshinori Kitase teased cursory plans to share fresh information sometime in the next 12 months. Fans should temper their expectations for the time being, however, since such intentions do not sound as though they're set in stone just yet. More news on the release of FF7 Remake Part 2 will hopefully emerge soon.
