Report reveals what Steve Hitchen did after quitting job at Tottenham
Steve Hitchen allegedly sent out a heartfelt email to his Tottenham colleagues explaining his decision to quit his role as the club’s technical performance director, according to Football.London.
The Telegraph reported on Wednesday that Hitchen had elected to resign from his post at Spurs after growing frustrated at having a reduced role in the past two transfer windows and taking a backseat to managing director of football, Fabio Paratici.
The 45-year-old spoke to Spurs chairman Daniel Levy earlier this about releasing him from his contract – a request which has since been granted.
But on his departure from Spurs, Football.London has revealed that Hitchen sent a compassionate email to members of staff at the club giving his reasons behind the decision to leave N17.
The report explained that he simply wanted a fresh challenge and praised the staff working behind the scenes who kept the club moving forward in both good and tough times.
It is also said that Hitchen was ‘honoured’ to have worked with some of the world’s most prestigious managers and thanked Levy for handing him the opportunity to work at Spurs, as well as the chairman’s understanding to let him leave.
The Guardian now claim Hitchen is a prime target for Everton, who view him as a candidate to replace Marcel Brands on the club’s board.
The same report explains Newcastle have also registered interest in the director, as the Tyneside outfit continues its reshape.

Hitchen was involved in some pretty dire transfers of late at Tottenham and part of a team that has spent a lot of money on players without having much impact. But that shouldn’t all be pinned on him, with managers also having a lot of input around him too.
A lot of people around Spurs say that Hitchen was a likeable character on a personal level, though, and this sort of act really demonstrates that.
