Screen Rant is excited to share an exclusive preview of Humanoids' latest graphic novel, Chronophage. This time-bending comic turns passion into horror. Love and time become twisted up in this thrilling new story.
Chronophage has the creative team of Tim Seeley and Ilias Kyriazis. Seeley has written Hack/Slash, Revival, and Money Shot. Kyriazis is the artist behind Collapser. It also features an introduction from writer Tom King, who has written for DC and Marvel, including titles like Batman, Mister Miracle and The Vision.
In this sci-fi graphic novel, a single mother becomes involved with a mysterious businessman who steals and consumes moments from her past, changing her history and forcing her to decide what elements of her personal history to alter, and which to protect. Her life will be altered as she faces new horrors as a result of her exploits with her lover. Humanoids is providing readers with a twisted take on relationships. How much of your past would you be willing to give up for a chance at a new future? When Chloe begins a passionate relationship with a traveling businessman, her life suddenly changes for the better - and not just because she's getting laid. Lost friends return, and new opportunities suddenly appear. Soon, though, she begins experiencing horrific encounters with ghostly beings, eventually revealed to be the echoes of moments she has now no longer lived. Her new lover, Heath, stands revealed as a chronophage, a terrifying alien being who subsists on days literally stolen from Chloe's personal history. Can Chloe recapture her lost moments, or is the life she once knew - including the daughter she had at sixteen years old - gone forever?
The preview from Humanoids above introduces Chloe, working at her job. It introduces some of the frustrations she has in life, particularly where her daughter is concerned. Being a single mother isn't easy and Chloe has her work cut out for her. But it seems that when the alien chronophage enters the picture, Chloe will have to fight to regain this life, frustrations and all. Regarding the latest graphic novel from Humanoids, Tim Seely says:
Humanoids has let us tell a contained horror romance here... a high concept, terrifying tale about relationships and the time we put into them. No matter how long a life can seem, the moments we share with the people we love are finite and can usually be counted in hours. That scares me more than just about anything else. Ilias brings a real humanity to this story, and I think you're going to fall in love with both our leads, even if one of them isn't what they say they are.
Kyriazis, the artist of this new Humanoids graphic novel, adds:
We worked so well with Tim on The Crow: Lethe that we just knew we had to collaborate again. Chronophage proved to be just the right project. Being all about time, it allowed me to experiment with layouts and rhythm to use techniques that'd only work on a graphic novel.
Indeed, Chloe herself notes in the opening pages how comics manage to imply and even skip periods of time, and Kyriazis' comments suggest this idea will be key to the story's art. Within the introduction Tom King says:
Chronophage by Tim and the brilliant Ilias Kyriazis is about time and how we spend it, the moments of regret, the moments of waste, the moments where we know exactly what might have been and we try like hell to forget what now has to be.
This sci-fi horror graphic novel presents a romance that readers likely wouldn't expect to find around Valentine's Day. This could very well be one of the most toxic comic relationships, even as its consequences clarify what really matters in life. Comic fans can see the horrific ramifications of Chloe's love life when Humanoids' Chronophage releases on February 15.
