We’ve identified five individuals we believe will be among the best performers this February…
Kevin De Bruyne (£6.4m)
The brilliant Belgian has produced 57 points since Game Week 15, averaging just over seven points-per-game.
So first and foremost, he’s in excellent form.
However, the primary reason Dream Team bosses should be queuing up to back KDB is Manchester City’s favourable fixtures.
Pep Guardiola’s side are capable of beating most teams without getting out of third gear so it’s reasonable to expect plenty of goals in the coming weeks when they take on: Fulham, Brentford, Norwich, Sporting CP, Spurs and Everton.
De Bruyne has scored four goals, provided three assists and scooped two Star Man awards in his last eight outings – surely he will continue to fill his boots this month.
Bruno Fernandes (£5.2m)
At the time of writing, Chelsea are scheduled to take part in four Dream Team eligible fixtures this month (Club World Cup games don’t count) while Arsenal have just two games in the calendar.
In contrast, Manchester United will fulfil SEVEN fixtures before the start of March.
Sure, Ralf Rangnick’s side aren’t on the same level as the top three sides right now but their most successful assets have to be in the Dream Team conversation when transfers are refreshed.
The Red Devils’ Portuguese midfielder produced a stunning 24-point haul in Game Week 20 to remind everyone of his credentials.
While Fernandes’ personal stats may pale in comparison to his numbers last season, seven goals and ten assists in all competitions at this stage is more than respectable.
Not only do Man United have a busy schedule, they are blessed with some favourable match-ups – they face Middlesbrough, Burnley, Southampton, Leeds and Watford in the coming weeks.
Cristiano Ronaldo (£7.9m)
Much of what justified Fernandes’ inclusion also applies to his compatriot.
The five-time Ballon d’Or winner has endured a quiet spell by his standards, just 12 points have come in the last five Game Weeks.
Ronaldo is one of those players who possesses a sense of inevitability and it’s hard to imagine him failing to score at least three goals in his next seven fixtures.
Man United’s most challenging opponent this month is Atletico Madrid but they’re a side who have been hurt by CR7 many times in the past – he holds a psychological leverage over them.
Simply put, Ronaldo is overdue a goal and history tells us that’s never the case for very long.
Aymeric Laporte (£4.5m)
Picking out another Man City asset may seem like playing it safe but the Frenchman-turned-Spaniard only appears in 5.4% of teams at this stage.
It’s quite clear that Guardiola sees Laporte and Ruben Dias (£4.2m) as his first-choice centre-back pairing this season and so there’s no reason for Dream Team managers to shy away from the former.
In fact, Laporte has just six points fewer than his Portuguese team-mate and yet the difference in popularity is humongous – Dias’ ownership is a massive 32.4%.
City’s No14 has accumulated 53 points in his last eight outings.
James Maddison (£3.9m)
We’ve been banging the Leicester playmaker’s drum for a few weeks now but it’s hard not to when a player amasses 98 points nine Game Weeks for crying out loud!
The Foxes actually face three tough tests in the form of Liverpool, West Ham and Wolves this month but they’re offset by a local-ish clash with Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup and a very favourable Europa Conference League tie.
Brendan Rodgers’ side will play Randers FC home and away – be honest, have you ever heard of them?
For those interested, Randers are currently fifth in the Danish Superliga.
Leicester have been vulnerable at the back this term but they still pack a punch going forward with everything going through Maddison.
Those with an alternative taste may prefer Patson Daka (£3.3m).
