RHONJ: Dolores Admits Split From David Was ‘Really Hard’ While Filming
Dolores Catania revealed her break up with David Principe was difficult while filming The Real Housewives of New Jersey season 12. The reality star met her former doctor boyfriend in 2017, and their relationship became a hot topic of conversation on the show. After Dolores and David had been together for a few years, her castmates began to wonder if they would ever get engaged. At one point, Dolores even said she would leave David if he didn't propose within a certain time.
However, Dolores realized an engagement wasn't important in their relationship and decided to give up on that dream. Instead, Dolores and her ex-husband, Frank Catania, helped David renovate his home, where Dolores spent most of her time. Despite making all of these sacrifices from him, David didn't seem to do the same for Dolores. In the end, they knew the relationship wouldn't work out and decided to end their four-year relationship over the summer.
During an exclusive interview with Us Weekly, Dolores opened up about how difficult it was to go through her breakup with David with filming RHONJ season 12. The reality star noted that her split was "really hard" to deal with while filming since she isn't "an outwardly emotional person" in her everyday life. Dolores, who teased a season 12 Teresa meltdown, revealed that she often "internalizes" her emotions and will hide out alone until she is over the situation. In fact, the mother of two has only recently opened up to her girlfriends about her feelings regarding the breakup. As for whether Dolores has spoken to David since the split, she said the two "haven't really spoken." However, she felt obligated to let her fans know about the status of her relationship since she's been so open on RHONJ.
Dolores later reflected on how her relationship with David changed after she completed filming RHONJ season 12. "[It was] time to move on and it was not for any reason. I’m sure he has nothing bad to say about me. I have nothing bad to say about him, but it was just time," Dolores said of her ex. In December 2021, it was announced that Dolores and David had broken up over the summer since their lives were no longer going in the same direction. David didn't make much of an effort in her social life, and Dolores "gave her all" to him. In the end, Dolores wasn't "happy in [sic] the inside and for a while" and was ready to move on from her and David's relationship. Since their breakup, Dolores has found a new boyfriend, Paul Connel. Dolores didn't say much about him; however, she did say he makes her very happy.
Even though it was tough for Dolores to go through her breakup with David while filming, in the end, everything worked out in her favor. Not only does Dolores have her new boyfriend Paul, but she has a storyline that The Real Housewives of New Jersey fans cannot wait to hear about.
