Nick Kyrgios leaves child in tears after smashing him with ball at 75mph at Australian Open but makes amends with gift

NICK KYRGIOS made a little boy cry by accidentally striking him with a tennis ball at around 75mph.

But the Aussie star quickly made amends with a brilliant gift.

Kyrgios, 26, has been entertaining packed crowds alongside Thanasi Kokkinakis in the men’s doubles at the Australian Open.

But he had the rowdy Kia Arena fans wincing early on in today’s quarter-final when a stray put-away soared into the crowd and hit a young boy.

Kokkinakis had served a let, which had been floated back towards Kyrgios.

Without needing too, the Aussie smacked the ball over the net for what would have been a clean winner.

It struck the court with such velocity, however, that it bounced into the crowd at high speed.

Kyrgios’ face fell as he realised what he had done and he immediately sought to make amends.

The crowd’s gasps turned to cheers as the world No115 grabbed a spare racquet from his bag and handed it into the crowd.

And as he received it, the little boy’s frown turned into a wholesome smile.

The electric atmosphere then helped propel Kyrgios and Kokkinakis to victory over sixth seeds Tim Puetz and Michael Venus to book a surprise spot in the semi-finals.

After the match, Kokkinakis said: “When we walk through that tunnel, there’s nothing like it. We don’t want anything else, this is perfect.

“Hopefully Craig (Tiley) is watching and keeps us on this court. The rowdier the better. Sink p**s then come on out.”

Kyrgios then added: “Unreal scenes.

“I’m not finished, I want to win this f**king thing to be honest.”

The ‘Special Ks’ will face third seeds Horacio Zeballos and Marcel Granollers in the semi-finals.

Kyrgios was ‘offered a FIGHT‘ by a coach and trainer after he and Kokkinakis dumped No1 seeds Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic out of the tournament last week.
