Report: Spurs set to meet with Serie A club today to discuss deal for defender
CalcioMercato have revealed that representatives from AC Milan will meet with Tottenham Hotspur today to discuss a potential deal for Japhet Tanganga.
In Eric Dier and Cristian Romero’s absence over the last few weeks, Tanganga has been handed plenty of minutes by Antonio Conte.
Despite Dier’s return to the starting eleven against Chelsea on Sunday, Tanganga kept his place in the side, staring as a right-back in a back four.
However, Sky Sports revealed in their live transfer blog (18/1 at 18:04) that the Spurs academy graduate is concerned about his prospects of getting game time once Dier and Romero are back to full fitness.
The Athletic reported last week that Milan are one of several clubs to have expressed an interest in signing Tanganga on loan but added that Spurs are reluctant to let him go.
According to Italian journalist Daniele Longo, Milan have also made contact with the Tottenham defender’s representatives over a January transfer.
Calcio Mercato have now revealed that the Rossoneri will try to push ahead with a move for Tanganga today. The report explains that Milan will meet with Spurs to see if there is ‘room for the operation to continue’.
This has also been backed up by Charlie Eccleshare, who added that Spurs would prefer an option to buy attached to any loan while Milan want a straight loan deal.

I would be surprised if Spurs let Tanganga leave without bringing in a defensive reinforcement. As things stand, Tottenham seem unlikely to sign a centre-back before the window closes. So, I expect Tanganga to stay at least until the summer even if Conte does not few the 22-year-old as being part of his long-term plans.
