The Kingsman franchise is getting a new box set featuring all three movies, including the newly released The King's Man, in chronological order. The action comedy series is based on Mark Millar and Dave Gibbons graphic novels of the same name centered on Gary "Eggsy" Unwin as he is recruited into the British secret service agency known as the Kingsman. Matthew Vaughn is the leader of the film franchise, having co-written and directed all three Kingsman films released thus far.
The latest installment, The King's Man, served as a prequel to the franchise as the story shifted back to World War I and centered on British Duke of Oxford Orlando as he begins putting together a team to create the world's first independent intelligence agency. With a collection of history's worst tyrants and criminal masterminds, including Grigori Rasputin, gathering to plot a war to wipe out million, the still-emerging King's Man race against time to save the world. Following multiple COVID-19-related delays, The King's Man finally hit theaters this past December to generally mixed reviews from critics.
Nearly a month after the latest film arrived in theaters, 20th Century Studios has announced The King's Man Blu-ray and digital release date and special features, the latter of which will arrive on February 18 followed by the former on February 22. Additionally, the Kingsman franchise will be getting a special box set featuring all three movies in chronological order and on special 4K Ultra-HD Blu-ray steelbooks, which will be sold exclusively at Best Buy locations. The King's Man Bonus Features:
The King's Man marks an interesting turning point for the Kingsman franchise as it continues its downward trend with reviews and financial returns, bringing in the lowest of each for the three films thus far. The prequel currently sits at a 42 percent approval rating from critics, though audiences have been far more approving in their reception as their score sits at an 80 percent, putting it just shy of the first film's 84 percent and ahead of the second film's 64 percent ratings. The King's Man also underperformed at the box office, only bringing in $105 million against its $100 million budget, though this was primarily attributed to stiff competition against Spider-Man: No Way Home and The Matrix Resurrections and a rise in the Omicron variant.
The Kingsman franchise box set and The King's Man Blu-ray sales figures will be vital to whether the franchise can continue as planned. Vaughn has previously confirmed a proper third film to close out the arcs of Taron Egerton's Eggsy and Colin Firth's Harry, as well as a spin-off TV show centered on the Statesman agency introduced in the second film, though with the latest film having seen some box office struggles, it will be interesting to see if 20th Century Studios and Disney are ready to commit to these plans if the home media proves successful or not.
