Dilan Markanday posts farewell message to fans following Tottenham exit
Dilan Markanday has posted a farewell message on Instagram after leaving Tottenham to join Blackburn Rovers.
The 20-year-old Spurs academy graduate linked up with the Championship high-flyers on a three-and-a-half-year deal, with the option to extend for another year.
Reports have suggested a fee of £500,000 has been paid by Blackburn up front, but potential performance-related bonuses could take the total figure to over £1 million down the line.
Markanday’s contract at Spurs was set to expire at the end of the season but despite allegedly being offered fresh terms, he turned down the deal in favour of searching for regular first-team football.
The young forward leaves the club having made just one appearance for the senior side, which came during October’s Europa Conference League defeat to Vitesse Arnhem.
He also leaves a history-maker at Spurs after becoming the first player of British Asian descent to make an appearance for the first team.
Markanday has since issued a farewell message on social media, saying the club he spent nine years at will always hold a special place in his heart.
He wrote: ‘The time has come for me to say goodbye and I want to thank everyone @spursofficial for everything they’ve done for me.
‘You’ve made me feel welcome and at home from the moment I joined 9 years ago. You gave me the opportunity to play the game I love and for that I will be forever grateful.
‘A special thank you to the amazing fans for all your support, it’s been an incredible experience and @spursofficial will always hold a special place in my heart.’

This is gutting news from a Spurs perspective as he is such a promising young player, but he wants to play first-team football and he clearly wasn’t guaranteed to get that in N17. It would have been a tough decision for him to make, so ultimately you can’t hold that against him.
