Many Sister Wives viewers believe Kody Brown's love of domination when it comes to his large family unit is completely out of date. Kody is supposedly the head of his large polygamous family, but he is often criticized by viewers for being irresponsible. Not only has Kody chosen a favorite wife, Robyn, but he has also pushed the other three to the side. Kody's introduction of strict pandemic guidelines didn't help ease concern that he is trying to live a monogamous life with Robyn. Instead, his decision added fuel to the fire, especially amongst his children.
Kody has slowly been losing control over the last couple of years. Now, he is trying to stand firm while arguing with his kids, but it doesn't seem to be working out for him. Between not spending quality time with his children and losing Christine, Kody has tried desperately to reclaim his dominance in his family. Ultimately, viewers believe this decision will cost him even more than it already has.
Kody has received criticism because of his controversial views on family leadership. Kody recently stated he thinks he isn't "patriarchal" enough with the family. The family dynamic shifted due to the inability to move between houses, causing Kody to lose control of Janelle's homestead. During a confessional, Kody explained he was mad at himself for not being more in charge. Viewers were appalled by Kody's arrogance and misreading of the situation. There has been more than one example of Kody's dominance causing issues, the most recent being him trying to kick his son, Garrison, out of the family home for breaking his COVID-19 protocols.
Kody has had no issues acting dominant over the years, often to the detriment of his familial relationships. One example would be back in 2010 when he courted and married Robyn. The first three wives had issues with the couple breaking the rules of intimacy, but Kody still did as he wished. The same could be said about his final decision to leave Las Vegas. Most of the wives were settled, but Kody had this plan of grandeur to move to Flagstaff and buy a plot of land. Now Coyote Pass sits empty, and Kody is a wife down.
The current problems Kody is experiencing in his plural marriage are the result of years of dominance and power tripping. The current season of Sister Wives is showing the unraveling of his relationship with Christine Brown, who left him in November of 2021. It looks like Kody is trying his best to cling onto any control he has left, but since each wife has lived alone for so long, they have all developed a love of independence. This new trait is bound to hurt Kody in the long run.
Sister Wives airs Sundays at 10 p.m. EST on TLC.
