Batwoman Joker Actor Teases Poison Ivy Meeting As Mind-Blowing
Batwoman actor Nick Creegan says that his Joker's meeting with the new Poison Ivy will be mind-blowing. Creegan plays Marquis Jet, the half-brother of Batwoman/Ryan Wilder (Javicia Leslie) in the show, who made his first appearance in Batwoman season 3. Marquis is portrayed as a privileged playboy with a mean streak, who suffered a unique trauma as a child.
As a boy, Marquis' school bus was hijacked by the Joker, who shocked him in the head with a joy buzzer, forever altering his personality. Since his introduction on Batwoman, Marquis has shown signs leading up to his eventual transformation into becoming The Joker, some more subtle than others. In a recent episode, after killing Professor Pyg, Marquis returns home to smear blood on his face in the form of a smile. Now, his transformation is complete, as he took over Wayne Enterprises and fully embraced his sociopathic nature as the new Joker.
In an interview with The Wrap, Creegan talks about his transformation to a new variation of the classic villain and responds to a query about whether he will meet up with the new Poison Ivy on Batwoman (called Poison Mary) played by Nicole Kang. Creegan says that the two characters would be "the hottest evil power couple" and goes on to explain that the two will, in fact, meet at a party in a future episode. "And there’s a moment where the Joker and Poison Ivy meet and the aftermath of that meeting is f—ing mind-blowing," says Creegan, continuing, "There’s a lot of evil, evil stuff that happens. And I can guarantee, after Marquis and Mary meet, that fans of the bat team are going to be very stressed out. Extremely stressed out." The two villains onscreen together is sure to drum up the hype, with Creegan adding:
Fans are going to lose their minds when they see these two on screen. There’s going to be so much tension and like, bursts of energy.
There have been many live-action Jokers to date, the first being Cesar Romero's version in the 1960s Batman TV show. Jack Nicholson would play the next version for Tim Burton's Batman in 1989 with Heath Ledger taking the mantle for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight in 2008 (netting the actor a posthumous Oscar win). Jared Leto took on another variation for the DCEU, appearing in Suicide Squad and Zack Snyder's Justice League as The Joker. The most recent version is Joaquin Phoenix in Todd Phillips Joker. TV versions have also appeared, including Cameron Monaghan's variation on Gotham and the many animated versions, often voiced by actor Mark Hamill.
Batwoman has been having a lot of fun playing with villain variations on the show, which allows a certain level of freedom in exploring the villain characters in a new light, rather than being beholden to every aspect of their original origin. Creegan will have a unique opportunity to put a new spin on The Joker, which is being teed up to play a major role in Batwoman season three when it returns from hiatus. Being one of the most popular villains of all time, audiences are sure to see many more Joker variations in the decades to come and as long as Batman-related films, shows, and the like are being made.
