The 90 Day Fiancé franchise is known for its many spin-offs, which give alums the opportunity to come back for new seasons. However, some cast members shouldn’t have returned. In 2014, 90 Day Fiancé first premiered, and it was an instant hit with reality TV fans. Fans couldn't get enough of the drama created by the K-1 visa process, which tests couples, right from the start.
Aside from the original 90 Day Fiancé, over the years, TLC has released at least 18 spin-offs, including (but not limited to) 90 Day Fiancé: The Single Life, 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, and The Family Chantel. These spin-offs follow previous cast members to see how their lives have evolved over the course of their relationships. However, after some couples were onscreen for an additional season or two, fans saw their true colors, and it wasn’t always pretty.
Colt Johnson first appeared in 90 Day Fiancé season 6 in 2018, and he was engaged to Larissa Lima from Brazil. While things were obviously rocky between Larissa, Colt’s mother Debbie Johnson, and Colt, fans felt a sense of compassion for him. This was especially true when Larissa shouted from the staircase, “All who is against the queen will die!” However, things changed when fans watched him in additional seasons. In 90 Day Fiancé: Happily Ever After, Colt returned with a new love interest: Jess Hanvey, who was also from Brazil. It became quite clear that his constant cheating habits, his unnervingly high sex drive, and his lack of emotions or compassion reflected his true nature.
Aside from Colt, there were other cast members who would’ve benefited from not being in other seasons. For example, Asuelu Pulaa from Samoa also made his debut in season 6 with U.S. citizen, Kalani Faagata. The couple also had a rollercoaster of emotions, especially as the season ended with Kalani finding out she was pregnant with baby number two, even though she made it clear she wasn’t ready for another child. Despite their differences, and Asuelu’s obvious reluctance to live the “American Way,” fans sympathized, hoping for the best for the two. Unfortunately, that changed as Asuelu’s family made more demands for money and he suggested Kalani move to Samoa to learn how the women work there.
Overall, being on 90 Day Fiancé allows the world to see the inner workings of relationships and families, and requires a certain amount of strength. While cast members may aim to always present themselves positively, relationships are already quite difficult. With the added pressure of time constraints and/or family members, it’s understandable that some cast members may not always be on their best behavior. However, in the future, some cast members may want to reconsider extending their time by signing on for spin-offs.
