I Am Jazz: Jazz Jennings' Most Dramatic Highs & Lows On & Offscreen

Thanks to her TLC show, Jazz Jennings from I Am Jazz has made a name for herself as a pioneer for the LGBTQ+ community, but her journey has not always been easy. Throughout her time on the show, Jazz has had to navigate the ins and outs of high school, undergo reassignment surgery, and postpone college. Regardless of what she's dealing with, Jazz manages to rise above adversity.

The Florida native has always spoken her mind. I Am Jazz was a smash hit for TLC when it premiered, as cameras followed Jazz around. Since the start of the show, Jazz has been living with her parents, Greg and Jeanette Jennings, while spearheading immense progress for the transgender community through the trials, tribulations, and happier moments featured in the series. Jazz has always been a beacon of hope for her friends and allies, as she continues to tackle misconceptions and right the many wrongs that have been done to her community.

Even though Jazz is a well-known public figure within the LGBTQ+ community, she has not always had the easiest life. Recently, Jazz revealed that she had an issue with binge eating and gained over 100 pounds. Jazz shared that this was an extreme low for her since she used to be extremely active and loved to play soccer. Jazz has also had to live with mental health issues, and those problems became so severe that she had to defer her freshman year at Harvard to take care of herself. Now, with the new season approaching, she has had to prove to the Ivy League university that she is more than ready to take on the challenge of academia.

Thankfully, Jazz has had many more highs than lows in her time on reality TV. Jazz has successfully undergone gender reassignment surgery while the cameras rolled. She shared the entire process with her fans and was honest about each step. Recently, Jazz shared that she was honored by the Smithsonian National Museum of American History in Washington, D.C., as they put her famous mermaid tail on show. Jazz has also been extremely vocal when it comes to her support of trans athletes.

Overall, Jazz has had an interesting television career. I Am Jazz season 7 has just gotten underway, as the family and Jazz pick themselves up during the COVID-19 pandemic. The activist is still proudly working on herself and fighting for others. Fans are now able to see Jazz work her way through her issues and come out on top, and they can't wait to learn more about her life.
