One Last Dive Is A Horrifying Short That Only Lasts A Minute
One Last Dive may only be a minute long but it still manages to be completely terrifying. Movie fans got very excited about Grindhouse when it was announced, with the movie being a double-bill of genre throwbacks from directors Quentin Tarantino and Robert Rodriguez. The former directed Death Proof - which followed Kurt Russell as a slasher who used his car as a murder weapon - while Rodriguez helmed Planet Terror. Despite the hype, the movie was a surprise box-office disappointment, though it helped inspire a host of similiar throwback films in the years that followed.
One of the most memorable aspects of Grindhouse was its fake movie trailers. There were five trailers in total, including Rodriguez's Machete, Edgar Wright's Don't, Thanksgiving by Eli Roth, Rob Zombie's Werewolf Women Of The S.S., and finally Jason Eisener's Hobo With A Shotgun. Eisener's trailer became part of the movie thanks to a fake trailer contest and proved so popular that he later directed the late, great Rutger Hauer in a feature-length adaptation in 2011.

Eisener has become something of a master of the short horror format, as in the years that followed he was also behind Treevenge. Arguably his masterpiece arrived in 2013 with One Last Dive. This was created as part of a collaboration between VICE and James Wan's The Conjuring, with the theme being that four filmmakers create shorts based around the "devil's hour." One Last Dive was Eisener's contribution to "The 3:07 AM Project" and sees a police diver investigating an underwater crime scene.
One Last Dive might be almost exactly a minute-long, but it's a masterclass in suspense. It builds to one hell of a jump scare too and even manages a twist ending, which is again very impressive for such a brief movie. It's also appropriate that it was created for the release of The Conjuring, which itself features the terrifying "hand clap" sequence, which is an effective horror short film on its own.
Jason Eisener's One Last Dive was greeted with well-earned praise in 2013, and three years later, it was confirmed that a feature-length version was in development. Sadly, little has been heard of Jason Eisener's - who also co-created Dark Side Of The Ring - planned spinoff, which The Goldbergs' Lewaa Nasserdeen was set to write. Even during its brief runtime One Last Dive hints at some intriguing ghostly lore, so assuming a movie version happens, it would be fun to see how the filmmaker expands on the concept.
