Real Madrid are attentive over the contract situation of Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba, Spanish publication Marca claims.
The Frenchman has less than eight months left on his existing contract, and he has yet to commit to a renewal with the Red Devils.
This has led to speculation that he could leave on a free transfer. Pogba can negotiate a pre-contract with a foreign club from January.
Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are interested in securing his services, but it is claimed that Los Blancos are also attentive over Pogba’s situation.
The Spanish giants are also keen on Monaco’s Aurelien Tchouameni, but consider Pogba as an ‘immediate’ replacement for Luka Modric.
Our view:
Pogba is presently on the sidelines with a thigh injury. It has been reported that he could be sidelined until the beginning of the New Year.
There has been no indication that the Frenchman will put pen-to-paper on a new deal, but United are reportedly reluctant to sell him in January.
The club’s hierarchy believe Pogba is too valuable to lose midway through the season, and they are willing to take a financial hit on him next summer.
United could reopen a dialogue with agent Mino Raiola in the coming months, but they no longer have control over the midfielder’s future.
The £54 million star has not spoken over his desire to stay at United. As things stand, it appears that he could be plying his trade elsewhere next term.
Tchouameni has also been linked with United recently. He could be a like-for-like replacement for the World Cup winner next summer.
