Chelsea transfer target Jude Bellingham ‘should join Liverpool as they’ll nurture him’, says ex-Blues star Glen Johnson
JUDE BELLINGHAM ‘should join Liverpool instead of Chelsea’, according to former Blues star Glen Johnson.
The Borussia Dortmund ace has been linked with a January move to the West Londoners but Johnson reckons the England international would be better of at Anfield where he would be ‘nurtured’.
Bellingham, 18, has been at Dortmund little more than a year but has impressed since breaking into the first-team.
He’s scored twice and provided five assists in 11 matches for the Bundesliga side this season.
And his performances last campaign earned him a call-up to England’s Euro 2020 squad and led to Chelsea’s interest.
SunSport exclusively revealed last month Manchester United are in pole position to sign the former Birmingham midfielder.
But when asked which of the Premier League’s biggest clubs would be the best destination for Bellingham, Johnson picked his most recent former team Liverpool.
The 37-year-old – who spent four years at Chelsea and six at Anfield – told Betting Odds: “I’d probably say Liverpool.

“Even though Liverpool do have superstar players, they also have a smaller squad.
“And they don’t have those superstar players sitting on their bench banging the door down, so it’s easier to keep the squad happy.
“If Jude was to make the move to Liverpool then I believe they can nurture him better than his other suitors and will give him more time as that’s what he will need.
“If he was to go to Chelsea or Manchester City and didn’t perform straight away then the pressure would be immediately on him and he would be stepped aside and somebody else would come in and take his place.
“Liverpool’s smaller squad would help him in that sense.”

Bellingham is one of an elite group of players who have had their shirt numbers retired after Birmingham did it.
