Breath of the Wild Player Gets Stuck Inside The Great Plateau

A The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild player recently uploaded a video displaying how they got trapped in a glitched area located in the side of a Great Plateau mountain. Though players are supposed to use their newly acquired paraglider to venture to other parts of the map beyond the Great Plateau, one player found their playable Link stuck in the area due to an apparent glitch. The Great Plateau serves as the starting point of BOTW and hosts obstacles that allow players to get used to the game's mechanics and various antagonists.

Though Nintendo's BOTW won several awards when it was first released in 2017, the game falls victim to the same problem that most video games encounter: glitches. With such a complicated open-world game, it's no surprise that players will find the occasional glitch. For example, one of the more recently found glitches is a rare moment of BOTW's Link spontaneously catching fire while in water. This unfortunate glitch is an instance of man vs. nature. A fan recently encountered another bug that falls into such a category.

Reddit user Matt-Le-Chef posted a video showing how they got stuck inside the Great Plateau. Traveling in the cold mountains on the Great Plateau, Matt-Le-Chef's Link is shown jumping down on a pack of red Bokoblins from a cliff above and using an arrow to shoot at them. With the user's Link surfing on his shield as he descends on his enemies, the impact of Link's close-range shot causes him to rise into their air and seemingly fall through the side of the mountain's wall. The player lands in what appears to be negative space, located between the mountainside's surface and the actual mountain itself. Matt-Le-Chef can still see the Bokoblins through the wall, but they cannot see their Link.

Stuck in this negative space, it does not seem like Matt-Le-Chef can climb out. If this is the case, because their Link is not wearing warm clothes to protect their body from the cold, their body heat will drop and eventually cause Link to die. With this potential fate, it seems death-by-cold or reloading their last save file are Matt-Le-Chef's only options in this scenario. That being said, they did not include further information on what followed the events shown in their video.

The developers on Breath of the Wild intentionally left some glitches in the game - specifically bugs that they deemed would make players' experience more fun. Thanks to this decision, players have, and continue to, uncover entertaining glitches as they await the game's sequel. However, with Matt-Le-Chef's odd entrapment glitch, it's safe to say this bug was probably not intentional.
