First picture of murdered teen whose family had to clear blood from street
A teenager who was stabbed to death in Leicester has been named as Abdirahim Mohamed.
The 18-year-old’s family said they are ‘overwhelmed by the events of the last few days and cannot believe Abdirahim is gone’.
Yesterday Leicestershire Police made a grovelling apology after the family had to clean his blood from the street.
Assistant chief constable Julia Debenham said: ‘I want to apologise unreservedly to the family and friends of this young man, along with other members of the community involved in cleaning up blood from the road and pavement last night. This must have been extremely distressing.
‘It is totally unacceptable that this mistake happened and I have asked for an urgent enquiry into the circumstances.’
When officers got to Abdirahim on Melbourne Street at 11.45pm on Wednesday they found he had been stabbed multiple times.
He was rushed to hospital but died in the early hours of Thursday morning.
In a statement, his family said: ‘We are overwhelmed by the events of the last few days and cannot believe Abdirahim is gone.
‘We’d like to be left alone at this time and ask for some privacy to grieve.’
Police have arrested a man, 58, on suspicion of conspiracy to murder.
He remains in police custody where he is being questioned by detectives.
