Tottenham head coach Nuno Espirito Santo believes his side had to overcome ‘a lot of obstacles’ during the 3-0 defeat to Crystal Palace.
Spurs made their return from the international break in less than ideal fashion, losing their 100 per cent Premier League record to The Eagles in dismal fashion at Selhurst Park.
The clash in south London was made challenging when Spurs were reduced to ten men after Japhet Tanganga was sent off for a second bookable offence on Jordan Ayew.
This was following what was a tough international break on Nuno and Spurs, with a host of key players picking up various injuries and quarantine problems over the last fortnight.
Spurs were without wingers Heung-min Son and Steven Bergwijn, while South American trio Cristian Romero, Giovani Lo Celso and Davinson Sanchez are training in Croatia following their involvement with their respective national sides.
Following the disappointing showing, the Spurs coach believes his side had it stacked up against them and feels the team had some control of proceedings despite the scoreline.
He said (via football.london): “We just look at the game. We had a lot of obstacles to overcame. I think we were in control of the game in the first half. We didn’t create much, but we didn’t allow too much. We spoke at half-time and the perspective was to improve, but it didn’t happen.”

It was a tricky return to league action for Nuno and Spurs, after a hectic and disruptive international break. A number of key players were absent for the game against Palace and there’s no doubt their impact was sorely missed. It gets tougher next week when Spurs face Chelsea, where a much better showing will be needed.
